				Hello
My great grandmother Margaret Nairn’ year of birth 1888 in Kirkcaldy & Abottshall, her mothers maiden name was Crichton.
I am stuck on finding out anymore, any suggestions welcome.
-
On Scotlands People you will be able to get a copy of the marriage certificate on 26 Nov 1909 of Margaret Nairn and Henry Kirk.  Parents Ann Crichton and Robert Nairn.

-
				Welcome to Rootschat

 She was Margaret Thomson Nairn & she was b 1889 - not 1888 - see www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Her parents only married in 1889.  Use Scotlands People to download a copy of the 1889 marriage cert which will give Ann & Roberts parents names plus their mothers maiden names

SP is a pay per view site & although the index is free to search you need to buy credits to download any certs

 1891 census

 Robert Nairn 22 b Kinglassie
 Ann 22 b Strathkiness
 Maggie T aged 1 b Kirkcaldy

In 1901 there were also the following children all b Kirkcaldy

 Andrew 8
 Robert 3
 Mary Ann 1

If you use Scotlands people you will find further Nairn/Crichton births

 Both surname Nairn

 Helen Crichton 1902
 Lizzie Fortune 1905
-
This looks a likely entry for her death:

 MARGARET THOMSO(N) NAIRN or KIRK
 Age 74
 1964
 442 / 75
 Kirkcaldy

Her death is within the period that you can download the registration on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

From a database on Ancestry (Scotland, Burial Monument Inscriptions, 1507-2019 - you need a subs to view), there is listing for her burial.

She was buried at Bowhill Cemetery in Fife. There is an inscription on the stone which reads:

Ilmo Henry Kirk Beloved Husband of Margaret Nairn D. 22.9.1962 Aged 73. Also the Above Margaret Nairn D. 28.1.1964 Aged 74

The listing includes a photo of the gravestone. Find a Grave has this listing (no image) www.findagrave.com/memorial/123921725/margaret-nairn

PS: Welcome to RC from me too  :)

This is a possibility for Robert but I would wait until you have downloaded the marriage cert to be on the safe side

Birth 10.10.1868 Kinglassie parents Andrew & Mary nee Henderson - marriage 1867 on SP

A tree on Ancestry has Ann's parents as David & Margaret nee Thomson - marriage 1851 on SP
-
Thank you so very much! This is really wonderful!
I am planning to visit Fife next year, will be my first ever time, so will go to the cemetery to look at my gt grandmother Maggie Nairn’s grave 😊🌸

Children baptism records for John Crichton and Mary White / Whyte (married 13 July 1832, Cupar)
 •   James 1833 Ceres
 •   John 1836 Kemback
 •   William 1839 Kemback
 •   George 1841 Kemback
As David seems to have been born about 1830, he may have been a child from either parent before the marriage.
I did not see a baptism record for David. However there is a death record in 1879 MARKINCH, for a David Crichton age 49 with mother’s name White. You would need to check that death is correct.

-
				1861 census Bartzewin Farm, Cupar
John Crichton 70 farmer of 36 acres born Lethendy, Perthshire
 Mary 60 wife born Cupar
John Crichton 25 son born Kemback
George Crichton 19 son born Kemback
 Elspeth Keddie 15 servant

John Crichton death 1866 Collessie age 75; mother – Stewart (you need to check if this is the right John. Death cert will give parents’ names)
 -   That fits with a baptism 11/02/1791, LETHENDY AND KINLOCH, parents James Crichton and Jean Stewart

Mary (White) Crichton death 1880 Cupar age 78; Mother -  Clark
(Death cert will give parents’ names)

Bartzewin Farm, Cupar = Beechgrove Farm, Cupar

Thanks to you all for this! I’m totally new to family trees! I need to go on ancestry to create a tree, also to get credits on Scotland’s people to view all of the certificates.
I also have my mothers paternal line of Kinnell’s to search for but that’s for another day!
-
Hello to all who have kindly posted!

I’m not sure if I need to subscribe to Scotlands people or ancestry or both to be able to view more records, any suggestions?

You don't need to go on Ancestry to create a tree. There are many other commercial sites which offer a similar service, some of them free of charge. Or you can keep your tree privately on your own computer. There's plenty of software for doing this.

And you can't 'subscribe' to Scotland's People. It is not a subscription site. It's pay-per-view, but modestly priced and you get digital images of original documents instantly.
