You really need to buy a copy of their marriage cert to establish the name of John's father given the spelling and the variance in places. No Dorothy M Humphrey birth in Doncaster but there is one in Bridgend in March qtr 1924
-
Hi Carolew,
Thankyou for the information, yes that would have to be the next step, the marriage cert for John and Dorothy,
i appreciate you help, Tim

-
Hi Tim
You're welcome.
I only have the ocr text at the moment, I'm afraid.
The grandfather I think is Peter George Hendley (edit!), I don't know if the text result missed out the P or not!

Birth 1906 Uckfield Dorothy Marie Louisa Humphrey mmn Horesecraft
Marriage 1905 Uckfield George Hendley/Louisa Horscraft
-
It just has Mr & Mrs G Hendley
Thank you, Rosie.
I see, the GRO have indexed John G as Gossling on the March qtr 1943 marriage (9c 1251)
Gosling on Yorkshire BMD
Could this be something?
On same page ref is Dennis Gossling, married Miriam Kirton
Yorkshire BMD confirm both marriages at St Jude's Church, Hexthorpe (the only two Gosling marriages indexed there)
Dennis Gosling and Miriam Kitson (!), ref CE7/58/416
John G Gosling and Dorothy M Humphrey, ref CE7/58/417
Gossling or Gosling, Kirton or Kitson, and were Dennis and John related? :-\
-
A Dennis Gosling was b 1921 Doncaster - mmn Ogley
William A Gosling married Grace Ogley 1915 Doncaster
-
Thanks, Carole.
Not sure it leads to a John. Maybe not such a great idea!
-
It is strange that a Gosling b Glamorgan marries a girl from Sussex in Doncaster & at the same church a Gosling from Doncaster also marries.
Why Doncaster when you are from Glamorgan & Sussex??
-
Wartime?
-
Good point Rosie - perhaps John G was stationed in Doncaster
-
The marriage announcement said Dorothy was in the A.T.S. too.
-
1939 register that John is a coal hewer father John, Mother Mary, living Aberdare Glamorgan. 1921 free index with same family down as Granville.

Not sure if same man who married Dorothy as he was a band crooner and boxer?

-
Wartime?
Absolutely. Still a bit weird though. Only three marriages that quarter at St Jude's, Hexthorpe, and two of them with a groom called Gossling (or Gosling!)
-
they had a son Roy L G Gossling born and died 1943
Roy's birth also registered in Doncaster, March 1943
Death, same quarter

Another newspaper announcement (and another free ocr text to deal with!)
Eastbourne Herald, 18 November 1944

How do you come to that conclusion. They didn't marry until 1946.
Dorothy is clearway described as beloved wife of Driver Gosling when she died in 1944, which doesn;t suggest he has another woman in his life
-
From other info, maybe not the same John G Gosling at all
1939 register that John is a coal hewer father John, Mother Mary, living Aberdare Glamorgan. 1921 free index with same family down as Granville.

If the 1943 marriage cert shows him as John Granville Gosling - then band crooner/boxer or not he is the one who married Dorothy & is on the 1921 census plus 1939 register. I suspect the marriage cert will show him as a soldier or similar.
The 2003 death in my first reply is undoubtedly his
Veronica Ayling was b 1924 - birth registered Prescot is in keeping with the 1946 St Helens marriage
Death Veronica Gosling 67 Birth 5.7.1924
