Title: Correcting mistakes

Being somewhat new to this game, I was delighted to be able to find ancestors going back to BC on my heritage family tree. However when I seemed to be linked to everyone famous in history, it was clear it was not accurate and a lot of it was manufactured for more interest. I was always suspicious about one connection (Guillame arques) but it took ages to spot he was only 6 when he had a kid. So obvious but I missed it.
Any advice on what should be done now. Start all over again? It could be just one error or all of it

Where researching your family is concerned, the best research is your own.  Trees that are found on the internet are all very well, but regrettably so many of them contain inaccuracies.

As I'm sure you know, you start with yourself and work backwards.  There is always a lot of checking and re-checking to make sure you are going in the right direction.

Those of us checking very common surnames have to be doubly sure we are going in the right direction!

There will be relatives that are very difficult to pin down and you can only get so far and that's it.  You just have to accept that and move on to another branch of the family.

With regard to your connection that you are not sure about, go back to where you are positive and start again from there.

You'd probably do best to start over again from scratch.  But don't throw away your fabulous tree, at least not yet.  If nothing else, it's an object lesson and there may even be some parts of it that you can salvage.

Hi, Erato,
I suggest you talk to other family members if you can, about previous generations of family members, any relationships, dates, places, occupations, and even rumours and stories passed down. They might help. Get them to record their bits of the tree with as much information as they can.
