https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-who-is-eligible-for-the-2023-autumn-covid-booster-and-when-will-it-be-available
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) says the following groups should be offered a Covid booster jab this autumn:
– residents in a care home for older adults
– all adults aged 65 years and over
– adults and children aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group, which includes pregnant women
– frontline health and social care workers
– people aged 12 to 64 years who live with people who are immunosuppressed
– people aged 16 to 64 years who are carers
When will Covid booster vaccines be available?
According to the UK Health Security Agency, the rollout is due to begin in October and NHS England will be specifying an exact date closer to the time.
The JCVI has advised that the autumn programme should aim to complete vaccinations by early December 2023.
-
Just announced in various newspapers - the autumn vaccine programme has been brought forward to mid Sept.

Thanks ,but here in Ramsbottom our Surgery has not done the Spring boosters yet!
I must phone up to see what is happening, I have phoned three times to be told it is hard to get the vaccine!
Will try again immediately.
At 86 I think I am eligible!
Thanks again.
Viktoria.
P.S.No luck .
They have no idea what happened with the Spring one and no notification re the Autumn one as yet.
Not good is it.
But thanks again.V
-
That is not at all good, Viktoria. You should have been contacted back in April for the Spring one. That roll out finished at the end of June.
You should phone 119 to tell them your problem. They should help you out:
https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/covid-19-services/when-to-call-119/
You'll need to tell them your Nat Health number and date of birth, etc.

Many thanks for that info.
I will follow your advice, better done before the Winter.
Viktoria.

Booking is now open for eligible people https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/covid-19-services/covid-19-vaccination-services/book-covid-19-vaccination/ or ring 119.

Invitations/appointments to get the vaccine don't usually come from your surgery, they come from the NHS

I received a text from my G. P surgery last week inviting me to arrange an appointment for my Covid booster and flu jab and am having it this afternoon.

Oh, so it must be different between areas - we have never had contact from our GP, but have always heard direct from NHS.
Sorry I got it wrong :-X
-
Thanks for the reminder Jen. Checked my surgery and they won't be offering Covid ones this year so booked one online at the local pharmacy :)

My surgery doesn't "do" boosters, they say, when as my 75th birthday approaching next month early, I asked them about that one - no interest or idea, "ring 119" is their best offer. Will I do better pursuing the over 75 line, or the over 65 booster, I wonder?

If you use the link I gave earlier you will be told if you currently ‘qualify’ for a booster. All you need to enter is your NHS number and date of birth.

My surgery does not do boosters either and we are normally offered appointments at a Medical practice 7 miles away which is virtually impossible to reach from here unless you have transport. Last booster we phoned 119 and asked for one in our town centre hall which is 10 minutes walk away and got one, will be doing the same this time.
-
There are no clinics currently on offer where we live so rather than wait we’re going over to Consett which is about 20 miles away :-X

Nothing here either until next week and GP doesn't do them. I think it's either booking for a local chemist or seeing if more walk-ins come online.
-
I just called 119. The recorded message spoke of high volume demand, with current waiting time of 20 minutes.
-
We must be the lucky ones then, Oct. 4th, flu and covid at the same time, turn up at our little surgery at the time for our alphabet surname, say hello to Sarah, tick the boxes, down the corridor, jabbed, out.
Takes about three minutes, and I am given to believe it is very lucrative for the surgery.

From 18 September, the NHS will start to invite people in priority order of risk and those eligible will be able to book an appointment on the National Booking Service.
I shall wait patiently :).
-
We got a text from our surgery last week. They have clinics in October for flu and flu/covid.
We are booked in for flu and OH for covid 2 weeks later - that will be the end of October which seems quite late.
-
My husband got a text last week inviting him to make an appointment.
When he logged on to make the appointment he was told that the 'offer' had been cancelled.
I haven't received anything yet, but as I am immunocompromised I decided that I'd rather take the bull by the horns and book rather than wait for an invite, and my husband has done the same.
Consett here we come :-X
-
We're both 78/9 and no letters/texts so far. It seems very disorganised this time. I think the admin structure seems to have closed down and is reopening slowly. It was excellent when it was administered locally :(
Flu jabs with GP on 30th - earliest that they're offering.
-
I called back on 119 and waited 25 minutes before getting through. Unfortunately, the agent was then unable to access my details on a database because of the high level of usage of the system, he thought. So no progress made on the appointment ...

Can't you do it online via https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/covid-19-services/covid-19-vaccination-services/book-covid-19-vaccination/ ?

I've been trying that all day. I just get a message which says there is a technical error which is our fault , please start your application again.
-
I get that message too
-
I had that message so rang 119. I had to wait about 15 mins and managed to get consecutive appointments for Saturday. It was a very noisy call centre.
It appears that there are few places giving the vaccine near us. We have to drive all of 3 - 4 miles!
-
I got that message until I tried putting my NHS number in without the spaces after the first set of three digits and the second set of three digits. Without those spaces it worked and I could see available vaccination sessions in my area.

My husband got a text message from the gp surgery on Saturday, earliest they could do was mid October. I didn’t receive a message.
This morning I went into the NHS app on my phone and booked mine for tomorrow morning, cancelled my husbands gp one and booked him in with with me at a local Pharmacy. Flu jabs on the 29th with Boots.
I should add we don’t like to have them at the same time because of my husbands cancer drugs, last year the pharmacist agreed with me that it was wiser to have them separately but our gps don agree.
-
Just tried it again without the spaces and have got one 10 minutes walk away tomorrow afternoon
-
Tried again this morning ,was offered the two together, flu and Covid.
Thought it better to have them apart so Covid 12th October .
Then will book ‘flu a couple of weeks after.
Thanks for the info, what it amounts to is a mess!
No consistency at all..
My friend with hip problems, and a stoma from bowel cancer, aged 88 ,was offered her Covid injection at Breightmet,at least two buses away, taking a round journey of at least two hours but most likely much longer .When we have a Health Centre a five minute bus ride away with a stop right outside her sheltered living complex in both directions, going and coming back.
Viktoria.

Nothing showing yet for my practice in Tamworth!!
-
Just tried again and can't even get to the page to enter my NHS number. Basically it says there's a queue to get in the queue ! I shall try again at bedtime.
-
Had one last try and got us both booked in for next Tuesday about twenty minutes away.
Result !!!!
-
Thank you for the information, I’m one of the extremely vulnerable but not been contacted so was able with the info posted here to get one for this Friday a 10 minute walk away. As I’m going away the following Thursday I’m pleased to have got that before my holiday. Had my flu jab on Saturday at the GP surgery.
-
We’ve got our flu jabs on Tuesday next week and covid ones on Friday 13th October… both at our doctors surgery.
We’ve had to have the covid ones elsewhere previously but very happy to go to our own surgery this time.
I was offered both together on 13th but decided to stick to the two separate dates.
I didn’t use the NHS website I just phoned our surgery.
Hope everyone else doesn’t have too much trouble getting them.
Caroline
-
We must have been very lucky this time around, had both covid and flu injections.
Seemed plenty of appointments, just not much advertising to let people know they were available.
Hope everyone is able to get there appointments shortly.

Before having my booster on tomorrow I managed to fit in a shingles vacine at the doctors last week. Hadn't realised that the new version of this is given as two vacinations seperated by 6 weeks to 6 months.
Was told by the nurse that I had a healthy immune system so the second one would be in late Feb

Asking for someone else: if you've had a flu jab, how long do you need to wait before having a covid booster in the same arm?
-
Mazi had both in the same arm at the same time in feb, flu and Moderna.
Mike
-
Our doctor's surgery only vaccinating housebound and people in care homes, suggest we go to a walk in centre. nearest one 30miles round trip. If they were oversubscribed we could have been there all day, or not seen at all. managed to find a place that actually did appointments, 45 miles round trip. Lucky I can drive. Absolute shambles compared to 2021
-
Mazi had both in the same arm at the same time in feb, flu and Moderna.
Thanks - I know this can be done, and that they make sure to leave a gap between the injection sites. However, when the person has already had the flu jab and the exact site has healed over so it can't be identified, do they need to wait a certain time in case the covid one goes in the exact same place?
-
I would not think it matters, the fluid in the needle disperses into the bloodstream instantly, and the needle is so fine that the healing is very quick, anyway the chances of being very close are remote, anywhere in the huge muscle in the upper arm is close enough.
Really though you should not listen to me, I have no medical qualifications. ;D ;D ;D.

Had my covid jab at a local chemist, was quite impressed to be honest by appts or walk in, Flu done at my own surgery.
I have a feeling that Covid we have our own choice and arrangements now, if it were me I would ask at my local pharmacy
LM
-
When I did get my appointment at the only place within 30 miles making appointments it was very well organised. Arrived a bit early and was actually in the chair just ahead of my appointment time. I was asked if I wanted flu jab at the same time. I had already made an appointment for the flu jab but that was three weeks later and involved another drive of several miles from home to a pharmacy. I decided to have the flu jab with the Covid and cancel my other appointment (different arms).
-
Rang local pharmacy first thing Monday morning. Appt for both of us at 3.25 for Covid shots..
Loads of us old dears kept walking in. Really quick and efficient.

Well, lunchtime news, HS2 is to be scrapped to The North.
Just announced on the lunchtime news.
Wasn’t due here until a good few years yet anyway .
£ 36 billion to be spent instead on other transport projects in the area???
Well I won’t be here to see it.
Wonder what Andy Burnham wil have to say .
(His promised no fare higher than £2 is set to rise to £2-50 shortly.)
Hope there have not been any trees felled as yet.
Not funny really but someone said on a bus ,perhaps someone had the map upside down, when the lovely sycamore was felled!
It is not beyond possibility.
Another Ground Nut Scheme———— they keep popping up!
Viktoria.

Our doctors had a walk in clinic this morning for flu jabs so we went down for that and while we were there we were offered a covid jab too which we weren't expecting, so all done and dusted.
-
We've just had what we believe to be our 7th Covid jab. We were also offered the flu jab, but as neither of us has ever had flu before, we declined. We walked down to our "more local" branch surgery and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine - long may it last "fingers crossed".
-
Don't know where you are located BB but it is expected to be warmer still tomorrow, long may it last but a shame for those flooded out
LM
-
Exactly, we can only be VERY grateful that we don't suffer too much. I live in Tamworth, in Staffordshire, and also on the top of the hill = Acorn Ridge! :)
-
Went to Tamworth years ago to a wedding nearby , lovely area.
I am in Essex and before any bright spark calls me "an Essex" girl, I am not!!
LM
-
Just to add that neither of us are from Tamworth, or even Staffordshire!
I was born in Cheshire (Hoole, so that makes me a Hooligan), OH born in Edmonton. We met in Runcorn in 1964. I was emigrating to NZ, but he persuaded me to go to London instead. We married in East Ham, daughter born in West Ham on Bobby Moore's birthday in 1966!! Then moved to Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire, from there to Gillingham, Kent and now in Tamworth, Staffordshire. None of this moving round the corner for us!!
-
I think I registered my interest in receiving COVID + flu vaccination on line last week
