Post by: Wendl on Tuesday 10 August 04 14:06 BST (UK)
Can anyone advise what "S.O.S.B.W" stands for under the heading who paid passage on immigration records from Ireland to Canada in the early 1900's???  Thanks in advance for your help

I have encountered this acronym before, I was told it stands for 'Society for Overseas Settlement of British Women'.

Type in SOSBW in your search box, I think you might get some info.

Hello Tom,

Thankyou so much for your reply, I have recently found my Grt Grandmother and her family's immigration records, and as a result was trying to decipher what this Acronym was.  Your inisght is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
