The 1861 Census for Andrew shows father John, age 36, as Brewer/Maltster, born Newington, Nottinghamshire, Charlotte, age 29, born Doncaster.

I haven't checked but I suspect John is the son of Joseph and Sarah, married 1825.
Mix up of generations.

I would agree.
For information: Newington lies just east of the South Yorkshire border. Newington falls within the district council of Bassetlaw, under the county council of Nottinghamshire. It is 7 miles from Doncaster.

FindMyPast baptism (transcript/image)
Joseph, born 1 March 1801, bap 29 March 1801, father John Taylor, cordwainer, mother Mary Carmichel/Carmickel.
Transcript has "baptism place - Doncaster, St. George", "County- Yorkshire (West Riding)"

I do not think that the 1841 census I posted earlier is correct two children were born before 1825, plus a Joseph Taylor married Sarah Westwood 25 October 1819
Yorkshire, England. Westwood was the name of their youngest child.
Also the 1828 baptism of John might be suspect?
The 1841/1851 census records would be helpful.

I have now found the 1851 census for the family on the 1841, which I posted earlier, I think it confirms that this is not the correct family of Joseph Taylor and Sarah Lonsdale

Susanna & Faith both possible servants in Yorkshire, others elsewhere.
Age 5 in 1841
TAYLOR, GEORGE 16

Age 4 in 1841
TAYLOR, WESTWOOD 14

I think the John & Charlotte marriage in 1854 is correct but he is not the John on the above census, wrong occupation.

FindMyPast has the baptism (transcript only) of
John Taylor, bap 13 May 1826, abode Newington, baptismal place Misson, parents Joseph and Sarah, father's occp'n "Malser" (as transcribed) which I think should be "Maltster". This would fit the occp'n of "Brewer" on the marriage register.
I originally posted "Parish of Milson" - the original has the long "s" - therefore, should have posted "Misson"!
