Seeking help on how to search South Australia BMD online.
I'm after (fishing exercise) the Summerton children born between 1912 when they were married and 1922 (100 years ago) Father: Walter Summerton, Mother: Kate Ada Johnston
What I have from a My Heritage search.
Walter Summerton, of Goose Island, born November 22 1857, in Gawler, South Australia, to Walter Summerton and Fanny Summerton (nee Plumb).
Fanny was born circa 1869, in Mount Duneed, Victoria, Australia.
Walter had 5 brothers: John Summerton, Frederick Summerton and 3 other siblings.
Walter married Kate Ada Johnston (my Grandmother's sister) in 1912, at age 24.
Kate was born Circa March 1 1885, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. (This bit in bold I already had)
Walter passed away circa 1962, at age 74 in Warrnambool, Victoria, Reg No 10611 / 1962
Any help finding any children would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Red

There’s a South Aus online database that has BMD …
https://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-database-search
Hopefully that is useful

This is from the Biographical Index of South Australians.
The information in the wonderful resource is not always correct, and it seems a little at odds with your information especially as the birthdate given for Walter(senior) is identical with one you have .
SUMMERTON, Walter Frederick. Parents Fredk and Emma Jane nee Tyzack. Born 22/11/1857 Gawler South Aust . arr. departed Vic in 1888 Occ. Blacksmith . Thanks Sparrett, I'm trying to find the children to Kate Ada nee Johnston. Kate was born in Launceston, Tasmania. The family moved to Melbourne early 1900 (Kate was around 15) and Kate married Sommerton from SA. Later around 1925 she married (2) Alfred Ashworth in Melbourne and moved to NSW where she lived her remaining years.
I'm trying to find any children she may have had to Sommerton either in SA or VIC.

You have missed a generation in your opening post. Walter Edward who married Kate was born 1887 to Walter and (Sarah) Fanny.

If you wanted to spend the $$ a Victorian death certificate should say number and names of any children (provided the informant knew). As you say the registration number for Walter is 10611 / 1962.
-
The 1912 marriage Summerton to Johnston was in Paddington, New South Wales.

Walter and Kate married in NSW in 1912, I can't see any children registered there.
Walter Summerton, of Goose Island, born November 22 1857, in Gawler, South Australia, to Walter Summerton and Fanny Summerton (nee Plumb).
I think Sarah Fanny BAILEY was Walter's (b 1857) first wife, Fanny Laura PLUMB was his second. Walter Frederick born 1887 was from the first marriage.

I love RootsChat ...... thanks everyone. ;D
I understood the generation gap, but Oops!! a copy and paste didn't quite do it.
Thanks Neale and Dundee, that gives me lots to go on. Maddy I think I might buy Kate's death certificate that should have children if any from both marriages.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.
-
He married his second wife as Reginald Walter SUMMERTON, probably because he was a bigamist. His repatriation file states that he had no children.
Debra :)
-
WOW !!! :o Many thanks Dundee, that explains a lot. Where and how did you find that?
I agree, liar liar!!! And now we know they were married. Thanks. I'm starting to put all the pieces together. So grateful. ;D

His service record and repatriation file are digitised on the NAA website. Just search for Walter Edward Summerton.

Newspaper report of Walter's marriage in Queensland.
-
Thanks again Dundee and Cando, he really was a CAD!!!
My Great Aunty Kate was better off without him!! I'm thinking now that she had no children to Summerton and as she was 40 when she married Ashworth she appears not to have had children with Ashworth either. Well I can't find any in VIC or NSW.

So Kate Ada and Walter married in NSW in 1912.
Then Kate Ada married Alfred Ashworth in Victoria in 1925.
Then Walter married Eva Brimson in Queensland in 1938.
Who was the bigamist first?
-
Dundee, I read all 244 pages of his record. Well done you for finding the Statement of lies. He also listed my Kate Ada as his NOK on his WW1 enlistment.
He did go on to have a sad ending.
-
Yes, great find Debra. A bit sad all round. And like Neale, I was thinking Kate also must have been a bigamist. I wonder what marital status she put on her second marriage?
-
I don't think he married this lass, just kept house and shared his surname with fake first name with her in Melbourne. :o in 1931
-
Yes!! Who was the bigamist first?
There is a letter on the NAA Web Site (search Walter Edward Summerton) in July 1921 by Kate's father complaining about publicly causing Kate distress when she learned of Summerton's other marriage. Kate married Summerton in 1912 and I can't now know when that marriage ended, but she didn't marry Ashworth until 1925, 4 years after the letter. So, I assume by that time she would be free to marry again.
-
That is interesting Sparrett. It is possible that the entry for 69 Queensbury Street in Melbourne could be the reason why the marriage to Kate broke down. 1921 she knew Summerton had married again. 1925 Kate married Ashworth and moved to Sydney. So it could have been another marriage or just living together as husband and wife. As they say the plot thickens.

I am not sure that her marriage to Alfred Ernest ASHWORTH went well for her.
Interestingly they lived in 1930 at Johnston St, number 270 in Kentville NSW and he was a builder.. ;D
There seem to have been at least one child, a boy who was resued from a house fire.

Another version of the story says it happened when his wife was on a holiday.
A search of his name on Trove brings up the troubles with the law, drink-driving, use of aliases
(Wadsworth, A. B. Lane) (Police Gazette NSW) a divorce in earlier life and sundry other snips.
I'm not sure how relevant this information is to your inquiry, but his name in the search box will tell much ;D
