Hi
The parish is Salehurst and Robertsbridge
Sarah Standen bapt 31 Jan 1789 d of Thomas and Mary
Brother Daniel 14 Nov 1790 Salehurst
And possibly Samuel at Etchingham 27 Feb 1782
Possible Marriage at Ticehurst Thomas Standen of Burwash bach and Mary Kite otp spinster 24 Aug 1788
wit James Standen and Dan Waghorn
If so Thomas Standen bapt at Burwash 3 Aug 1764 s of Samuel and Ann
Thomas Standen master cordwainer of Robertsbridge took on an apprentice Thomas Blundell 1781
This suggests this is not your man and the following is more likely:-
Thomas Standen and Mary nee Baker and daughter Catherine bapt 1.10.1786 at Salehurst throws up questions .A marriage at Salehurst 4.4.1779 .wit Thomas Dan and Edward Medlitt
This gives us a burial 24 Sep 1823 of Silverhill born 1750 at Salehurst.
And Mary 23.3.1831 of Robertsbridge age 76 so born 1755
There is a baptism at Salehurst 25 March 1753 to Thomas and Sarah Standen
There is a PCC Will for Thomas Standon cordwainer 1824 which mentions his son Samuel and deceased son Thomas and his children Eliza and Emma.
Thomas junior would have been baptised at Rye 1780.
Thomas Senior has a possible brother Arthur bapt 1744 at Rye also a cordwainer and they are both mentioned in the Will of Nicholas Oxley cordwainer 1793.

Hi Ciderdrinker
Where is the info from? Its very comprehensive :-)
I'm afraid my brain is not working and I'm having trouble following your thinking.
Why would Thomas Standen master cordwainer of Robertsbridge taking on an apprentice in 1781 suggest he is not my man?
Why does the baptisms of Thomas Standen and Mary nee Baker and daughter Catherine on 1.10.1786 at Salehurst throw up questions?
Who got married at Salehurst 4.4.1779 .wit Thomas Dan and Edward Medlitt?
Would a burial 24 Sep 1823 of Silverhill born 1750 at Salehurst be for Thomas Standen?
What is the name of the child for the baptism at Salehurst 25 March 1753 to Thomas and Sarah Standen?
Would you be able to send me copies of the Wills of Nicholas Oxley and Samuel Standen?

Hello
Sorry if I wasn't clear Lou Lou.
I got most of the stuff from Freereg and the Wills are on Ancestry
Thomas Standen taking on an apprentice in 1781 at Robertsbridge means he must be at least 21 so he can't be the man born in 1764 to Samuel and Ann Standen and there must be 2 Thomas Standens.
Yours has to be born 1760 or earlier
This fits with the Thomas Standen born 1753 s of Thomas and Sarah Standen at Salehurst.
He marries Mary Baker in 1779 rather than Mary Kite in 1788 .The 1788 marriage to Mary Kite is the other Thomas Standen born in 1764.
Your Thomas Standen was buried 24 Sep 1823 age 73 so born 1750 at Silverhill and his Will was proven the following year.
Hope that solves all the confusion

Hi Nell,
Could you give me a bit of clue as to where exactly the Sussex wills are on Family Search - I don't find the site very user friendly and for the life of me I cannot find them.
Many thanks,
Loulou

They are on various films. I suggest that you go to the catalogue search, put in Sussex in the place field and choose online.
From the long list of Sussex records, choose 'Probate' to expand. There are 39 entries. You need to choose which ecclesiastical court proved the will to find the correct film.
This is for the wills proved in the Archdeaconry Court of Lewes:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/685691?availability=Family%20History%20Library
and this is South Malling Deanery
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/173636?availability=Family%20History%20Library
Although :-[ I see that the Standen will is a PCC will which are available from TNA, again free with an account.
