Title: Francis Phillips
Post by: puggypugs on Tuesday 25 July 23 12:30 BST (UK)
Would appreciate help in dating this photo and possible location. Having checked on line the car is possibly from the 1920s but I have a feeling the photo was taken after ww2.

The man in the sailor hat was Francis Phillips born 1909 in Stratford, East London and lived Manor Park, East London/Essex area  all of his life. No idea who the men are with him.

Thanks

The car appears to be a 1929 t0 1932 model and I guess looking at it seems to be a few years old.  I've enlarged the photo for a better look and I think the photo could be mid to late 30's, regards, John.

Thanks for the replies.  I hadn’t thought it could have been taken in the 1930s so that’s interesting. We had originally thought it looked like it was taken in the U.S. but as far as we know he hasn’t been there.   I’m wondering if it was taken in East London somewhere.  I have been looking online for pubs that had a petrol pump out the front which is pretty unusual.

Thanks for the help

Don't think it's a pub; it says "office" on the window, John.

Thanks for that. I think you’re both right.  I had assumed it was a pub but that would make more sense with the petrol pump. I have a feeling it would have been in the East London area.
Thanks again
