They married in 1892 and had three children (that I have found).
John Willie b 2/3/1895 (Dudley Jun 6c 63), Benjamin James jnr. b 1897 (Dudley Jun 6c 90) who died 3/6/1913 (Wolverhampton Jun 6b 704) and Reginald b 16/9/1904 (Wolverhampton Dec 6b 646). The 1901 census shows the whole family of five. The 1911 census shows Benjamin James snr. with his three children whilst Emily is on a hospital census where it states she had four children of which one had died. Can anyone please help me find their dead child?

Have you checked on the GRO index for birth registrations with those surnames in that time period?
Can also check there for a possible death in that time period and match them up.
There is a gap between 1897 and 1904 children so can look there first then 1905-1911.

I have done that using BMD but there so many that it could possibly be.

There is a Martha born and died in Cannock in 1893, you do not say where the couple married.
Just beat me Rosie.

Yes I was just about to post that

Using freeREG, the only Martha Gregory baptims that comes up is in Deryshire with the wrong parents.

Are you using the GRO index to locate the births, you can add mothers maiden surname to that search.
The only other Gregory / Townsend birth registrations that I can see in England/Wales 1892 - 1911 were registered in Keynsham.

Thank you for the web link, very useful. It can't be the other location, too many other children!

As the birth and death registration are in the same quarter it is likely that the parents did not get around to baptising her.
Have you seen that images for some birth and death registrations are now available from that website for £2.50 each

Why do you think that the birth and death were in the same quarter? We don't know if the child was a boy or girl. Could one possibility be that Emily had a still birth but counted that as have a child that died?

It is true that the question could have been answered wrongly, buying the birth registration image would answer who the parents were. I have just checked Gregory / Townsend births back to 1880, they are only showing the Keynsham area family

I assumed you meant 'if' and not 'as'. Thank you I think it is more likely than not that Martha is the missing child. I will have to get the birth certificate to confirm. Thank you for your help.
