Title: Florence Kate Poysden
Post by: jbj63 on Sunday 16 July 23 13:50 BST (UK)
Florence Kate Poysden was my 1st cousin 3 x removed.  She was murdered in 1887 by the lodger at her home.  She was only 15 years old.

Her murderer Charles Walter was sent to trial on 8/7/1887 accused of wilfull murder.  He was assessed as insane on arraignment and escaped hanging.

I am trying to find out what happened to him after that.  I don't know anything about him except from excerpts from newspapers.  He was 24 at the time and an Agricultural Labourer at Drayson Street Farm, Teynham, Kent.  In another article he is 28.

Florence was born 1872 in Faversham.  Parents George and Ann Poysden.

Can anybody see anything on him after the trial?

He was in Broadmoor asylum in 1891.  One of the articles says he was a traction engine feeder which matches the census.

Piece: 1008; Folio 78

A google search shows him discharged from Broadmoor 21.11.1896 but there is a warning about the website when you click on the link.  It also says he was admitted to Broadmoor in 1889 - not 1887

That is very disappointing.  I would have hoped he would be imprisoned for life.  He was assessed as being insane.
