Hi,
I'm trying to identify the person in this photo - a rough date would pretty much solve it. I'm pretty sure it is my 2xgreat grandmother Martha Jane Anderson born 1890. The only other person it could be is her mother Mary Anderson (nee Barrass) born 1867.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I believe this is the Victorian age, around 1890s; So it would be Mary Anderson née Barrass as Martha would be a 10 year old and she is too young to be her in the photograph.

This is 1880s clothing. See, for example~

So would be Mary Anderson.

Hmmm - glad to hear you say that . . . 1880s I mean - that was my first thought too -

Ah that's brilliant. Thank you very much both for your help. I didn't realise that the photograph was taken as early as that, probably makes it the oldest one we've got! Makes sense now why "Grandma Anderson" is written next to it as it would most likely refer to her married name as opposed to her maiden name.

Definitely 1880s, Wiggy!
As you know, one of the first things we 'daters' learn about is 1890s is 'Sleeves' ;D ;D ;D ;D
PS
Daniel - it could be later into the 1880s, the linked image was just an example.

Anderson Family.

Oh wow that restoration is amazing. I tried one myself but it is nowhere near as good as that. 140 years worth of cleaning up! Thank you very much for that.

I would agree with Wiggy and Gadget 1880s.
