Believe it or not, I'm getting better at this. His siblings died of diarrhoea and convulsions, but what did William die of? Something mesenterium by the look of it, but I can't read that first word.
Grateful as always for any help offered.
Thanks

tabes mesenterica = TB of the lymphatic system.
Dorland’s Medical Dictionary says “TB of the mesenteric glands in children”.

Tabes Mesenterica
Caused by, I think, drinking contaminated milk from a cow with TB
-
Perhaps worth mentioning that, coming from milk, this would be from cows suffering from bovine TB caused by Mycobacterium bovis, not “standard” TB caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
-
Of course, at only 4 months old, the baby was far too young to have been given cow’s milk.

Thanks all. I would never have figured that one out.
His father died while his mother was pregnant. I wonder if she was just not able to feed him. He was only tiny though. It must have happened very quickly though.
