Hi I had some amazing help which enabled me to get off starters orders for a lady who knew nothing about her family. Im not sure if Im going along the right route with Alice D Armstrong who married Thomas Doney Barker in 1937 in Northumberland. Thomas died in 1939 aged 28 and they had one child together in 1938. Alice then remarries in 1945 to Robert Baker in Northumberland.
I found an Alice D Armstrong born 1915 in Northumberland with mothers maiden name Robinson. The only marriage I have found is a John R Armstrong and an Annie Robinson in 1914 in Northumberland. There are trees on ancestry with this couple but not with Alice. I think what makes it harder is shes above the age for the 1911 census and I dont have access to the 1921 census

The Probate Calendar of 1939 shows that administration of the estate of Thomas Doney Barker was granted to Alice Dixon Barker, so I'd agree that you do have the right Alice :-)

Just general info really. Alice Dixon's mother Ellen died 1927. Her father George Rutherford Armstrong then goes onto marry in 1931 an Ann Jane Taylor nee' Robinson 1867-1936). She 1st married Bartholomew Taylor in 1894. Ann Jane Robinson and Alice Dixon Armstrong's mother Ellen Robinson (1878-1927) were sisters.

Just adding background to johnhood’s post: the Deceased Wife’s Sister’s Marriage Act was passed in 1907. Before this the marriage between GR Armstrong and AJ Taylor would have been illegal, although I suspect this law had been frequently ignored, and I have documented one example in my own research.
