A friend of a friend whose father died recently is trying to locate his grandfather’s burial place so that he can scatter his father’s ashes on the grave. He had no idea of when his grandfather died but I’ve managed to establish that John Stanley Stringer (b1922) died in the Luton Registration District in the June Quarter, 1967. I cannot find any record of this burial in Findagrave or The National Burials Index. I’d be grateful for any assistance etc in tracking down the burial place.

Where was he living when he died as the Luton RD covered many areas
https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/luton.html
-
The family seem to think it was Luton itself. I'll try to find more but the grandson was only 7 years old when his grandfather died.

Did your friends father have any other siblings who are still alive? John was b 1921 Birmingham so will only have married in the 1940’s. No will found with any clues to his address
In the absence of any other info the 1967 death cert should have his address but not guaranteed if he died in hospital etc
-
He was in Middlesex in 1939
-
Thank you. The family say he was born 1922 in London. Married Ethel H Waller in Southwark, 1942.
-
There is no John Stanley Stringer birth in London in 1922. See GRO online re Sept qtr 1921 birth. Are they associating the 1939 entry for Middlesex as his birthplace?
-
Ethel Hilda Waller was b 1919 & remarried 1972 to Charles Moore. She died 2002 Cornwall.
Freebmd shows 2 Stringer/Waller births 1945 & 1948 - one of whom will be your friends father. Is the other sibling still alive & possibly able to provide any info re grave?
-
Might he have been cremated and with his mother? (Phyllis Gwendoline) Who is at All Saints, Harrow.
-
John Stanley Stringer was in the newspapers on several occasions :-X
He and Ethel broke up?
Luton area
In the mid sixties, up to 1968, there was a John S Stringer at 80 Caravan Site, Woodside, The Grove, Caddington.
Living with Rosa Stringer
Rosa Stringer was on her own at the caravan site on the 1969 electoral register.
So it looks like it's him.
Possible marriage, March 1963, Barnet 5a 1639
John S Stringer + Rosa Magnante

How did John have a grandson born in 1960?
Debra :)
-
Good question. Eldest son was only 22 & youngest 19
-
Thanks to all. Much appreciated. I'll consider and respond in the morning. Carole, unfortunately the 1948 sibling died quite young.
-
As Dundee says- your friends friend cannot be the grandson of John Stanley Stringer. You say the grandson was 7yrs old when JSS died in 1967 which means he was born 1960
Given his father was only born in 1945 - it's just not possible.
-
Re 1963 marriage shown by John above. A child was born to that marriage also in 1963
-
Apologies for confusion. My misunderstanding. Seems the grandson was born in 1974. As regards the 1922 birth the family mention in London I note that there was one for John S Stringer in Romford RD that year. I’m trying to get more feedback from the family on this one.
CaroleW. Thanks for the Edith Waller remarriage and death details, also the 1963 birth which I've now located.
Mckha489. Thanks for the pointer re the mother’s cremation. I don’t think they knew anything about that. Would you mind giving me has birth details and year/source for the Harrow cremation, please?
Jonw65. Thanks. That seems to pin down the likely death locality nicely. Where can I access the news articles you mention, please? Might be better to access these myself than discuss the content openly in this forum?

The burial of Phyllis Gwendoline STRINGER is in the
London, England, Church of England Deaths and Burials, 1813-2003 set on Ancestry
https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/1559
The newspaper mentions can be seen either on FindMyPast or on the British Newspaper Archive. On the latter you can get a good idea of the gist of them from the preview clips, if you want to see the full article you can get the first 3 for free if you have never registered with them before. It might be all you need. (confusingly there are some brothers John & Stanley Stringer so you have to make sure you are looking at the right ones)
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch=john%20stanley%20stringer&retrievecountrycounts=false
And I forgot to add.
the Romford birth is not the right one
STRINGER, JOHN SOLOMON PHILLIPS
GRO Reference: 1922 J Quarter in ROMFORD Volume 04A Page 968
where as
STRINGER, JOHN STANLEY HALL
GRO Reference: 1921 S Quarter in BIRMINGHAM Volume 06D Page 552
the corresponding marriage HALL/STRINGER was in 1918, Darlington and the names match the 1939 register and the burial posted - the burial and the address in the newspaper articles are a match.
