Hi Rootschatters,
I've just discovered that my gggrandparents lost 3 children, they had 9 in total. The first 5 were born in Tanfield between 1865 and 1876. They had a sixth that was born in Lanchester in 1887 called John William SMITH.
I've tried looking on BMD but with the name Smith it throws up thousands of options. My Gggrandparents were called John SMith (1842) and Hannah Minto Grey.. I'm guessing the deceased children could have been born between 1876 and 1887 as there's a big gap there...
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thank you Tab 11

If you sign up for a (free) account on that site, it allows you search births using both a surname and a mother's maiden name which will possibly get you further forward

Try Gray or phonetically similar names as there appears to be two female Smith children mmn Gray, on the above site suggested,in the correct area, there could be another one.

This looks to be a possible for one of the children born and died too soon
