Title: ROUND Family of Holly Hall, Dudley, Worcestershire
Post by: LzzieG on Sunday 04 June 23 06:37 BST (UK)
Does anyone have a copy of the family history publication titled "The Round family of Holly Hall, Dudley, Worcestershire" by A.T.C. Lavender published in 1992 which they no longer want. I have been searching for a copy of that publication to buy without success.

I have been researching Richard Round who arrived in Tasmania, Australia in 1862 at the age of 51 yrs along with his wife Esther aged 49 yrs on the ship "Vanguard". They were both born in Dudley, Worcestershire and are mentioned in the above publication. On the 1851 census they were living in Holly Hall, Dudley, and Richard's occupation was shown as 'shoemaker'.

I am hoping the publication will provide more details about Richard's ancestors and their lives in Dudley. I live in Queensland, Australia, and none of the local libraries or family history societies have a copy of that publication.

Thank you.

Can't help with a copy of the book.

I assume you have this information - from the likely birth registration of youngest son Eli ROUND (Mar qtr 1838, Dudley 18/230) the mother's maiden name is FISHER. Richard ROUND and Esther FISHER married 7 Nov 1831 at Rowley Regis.

Richard may have been bapt 27 Aug 1809 St Thomas, Dudley to JOSEPH/MARY

1841 we have;
Richard Roum 31
Ester Roum 29
Josiah Roum 8
Elizah Roum 5
Eli Round 3

Nearby is a James Round and family

He may have been bapt 10 Aug 1806 to the same parents.

Thanks to this thread I think I've identified my 4 x great grandmother's family  :)
Sarah Round married Joseph Jones in Birmingham in 1822.  I've never found her baptism or parents but with one of her children called Richard I think that ciderdrinker may have solved the mystery!  Something to follow up at last.
Thanks!
Bev

Thank you for all your help and information. It really is appreciated.  I will certainly follow up on all the information you have kindly provided.

I've been in contact with the Dudley Archives who advised me the book I am seeking is an unpublished biography. They have since provided me with a photocopy of that biography which not only contains details of the Round Family I am researching but also information about Holly Hall in Dudley - a very interesting read.

Thank you all once again.

So does it give you info on Richards parents?

Worcestershire Chronicle, 11 Feb 1852
CRUELTY TO ANIMALS - James Scrivener was charged by a man named Richard Round with ill-using a horse on the road between Dudley and Holly Hall. The offence, which was fully proved, occurred on Sunday morning the 1st inst. and was of a most brutal and aggravated nature.

Strong possibility "your" Richard.

Richard Round Jnr was baptised at Dudley on 8 April 1810 and it is believed his parents were Richard Round Senior and Sarah Harinson (or Harrison) who married on 19 June 1785 at Dudley Top Church. Tracing back further is difficult due to the large number of Rounds in the Dudley area and Richard being a common first name.
