A fairly understandable parish register one I came across yesterday. I found a bride with the surname Howay in mid-Kent, and thinking it was an odd name I looked at the original and realised it was Ottoway, which is a name that occurs in my husband's mid-Kent ancestry. I sent in a correction, but I thought I would check the others and they are all Ottoway. It is an unusual name, but the capital O is pretty clear in most of them. I have passed the information to FindMyPast, and await their answer.

Good luck with that! I reported a missing child, William Henry Jarvis, from a 1911 census who is listed on the original, back in 2020. The correction has never been made so this child does not appear on the transcription.
I've just checked it and the correction has still not been made. I did a chat back in 2019 about this, nothing done. In 2020 I reported the error by filling in the relevant boxes.
This is the link to the transcription:-

If you click to view the original you will see what I mean.

I have recently submitted three or four corrections to Findmypast and they acted very quickly and corrected them, so it seems odd that they appear to ignore you.

Most odd Dave, perhaps I shall try again once TOTH has seen my post.
-
Some seem to get corrected quickly while others disappear without trace. Also something odd has happened - I have several reports which I have sent in, and the replies saying they will be acted on, saved in my emails, but I can no longer check them, as I get sent to the "Welcome back" page!
G.G. I see what you mean - he is definitely not there.

Out of interest, what was the marriage, please?
My 7 x great grandmother was Dorcas Ottaway who married into the Bourne family in 1720.
Thanks!

I mis-remembered slightly, as it is quite a while since I did the research, but there could well be a link. The name I have is Attaway Bourne, (baptised Ottaway) 1773 Hothfield, who had a daughter Dorcas. I will need to do some checking - too late at night now!

I've been ploughing through the 1921 for my One Name Study and submitting corrections. Nearly all have been accepted without problem, including one where a person's details were inexplicably converted into two database entries, one with just the name and another with the rest of the details. Luckily he was with family.
One I've had no success with was entered as the 11th person on the household form. He was the wife's grandfather, and it was only the fact that he had been living with her in 1911 that allowed him to be found. Of course there were more children 10 years later, and they had not used a continuation sheet. I can't submit a correction to a record which doesn't exist, and multiple emails to support have gone unanswered.

Yes, I have this family in my tree. Attaway/Ottaway Bourne's grandparents, Daniel Bourne and Dorcas Ottaway and thereafter his aunt Dorcas Bourne are my direct ancestors.
I'll drop you a PM so as not to hijack this thread :)

Hello
Just another mis transcription on find my past - although checking the original, it could be read as below
RG10 672 38 29 Benjamin Hassey's occupation is listed as Pheeloringhs.
It should be wheelwright.

I recently found a 1921 census entry which I thought was badly mistranscribed. I'd only located the family by searching for the given name and DOB of one of the children and the registration district.
When I looked at the image, I saw that the transcriber had done a VERY good job.

I was looking up James Minett on Findmypast in 1871 Census RG10/3074/19/8/52 and trying to figure out his occupation. They had transcribed it as Lothammer.
Original though faint reads Labourer.
On the same page, his son is down as a Waffoner but the original could be read that way (really is waggoner).
I have submitted a correction for James.

Another one ....
I was looking for the House family who might have been in Bethnal Green for the 1851 Census. I found a Joseph House with his family H0107/1539/573/5 but his occupation had me stumped. It had been transcribed as exedroton.
Checking the original, it reads excavator.
Back to the search,

Is he in the Howes one-name study, with occupation?

My own birth is mistranscribed. I`ve written about this before, but to cut it short the problem was the Registrar`s handwriting !!
-
I don't think he is in the Howes one-name study but have only had a quick check.
The one in Bethnal Green in 1851 gives his birth year as 1816 and place as Hampshire, wife Eliza.

Paul Howes would be glad to receive any details you may collect. He has found House concentrated in Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset.
