Title: Looking for burial place
Post by: Greygirl on Thursday 25 May 23 20:15 BST (UK)
John Cooper 1855-1936 and his wife Mary Ann Cooper (nee Griffiths) 1868-1943 lived in Blaenllechau near Ferndale, Rhondda Fach. I'm trying to find where they were buried. I have a list of burials in Ferndale cemetery and they aren't on it. Possibly Penrhys, perhaps Maerdy, maybe even Llanwonno but I really don't know where. Anyone with a list who could check for them for me would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not at Llanwonno or Penrhys.

Maerdy is Ferndale.

Could they have been cremated at Glyntaff?

Well, yes I suppose so though if their ashes were interred in one of the local cemeteries I would expect there to be some record. Of course the ashes might have been kept at home or scattered or even interred somewhere else in which case my search is doomed

I have 7 relations who lived in the Rhondda but who were cremated presumably at Glyntaff, in the early 40's - 70's, all buried in a single standard grave with standard headstone at Glyntaff. The ashes of 3 people were all buried at the same time about 20 years after their death, presumably after having been kept by the son whose remains was the last to be buried of his direct family. Glyntaff crematorium had a record of the burial of cremated remains but said they do not record dates of death, although they didn't have a record of date of cremation either. So it would be worth emailing them to ask them to check if they have a record of any ashes being buried. Otherwise if they were not originally from Blaenllechau, could they have been buried at their place of birth ?

It may be worth looking at those records as if they were cremated there they may mention what happened to the ashes
