Title: Unknown Lancashire town
Post by: Catherine61 on Monday 15 May 23 11:15 BST (UK)
Evening,
My ancestor Ann Rose (1835-1903), went to live with her uncle John Rose and his wife Jane Rose in Heaton Norris, Stockport according to the 1851 Census (attached) after her father George Rose died in 1840. 'Where born' for John Rose, looks like Sambury, Lancashire. However, I cannot find a town called Sambury in Lancashire.
Is it Sambury, or could it be some other town?

Thanks in advance for your help

Could it be a bad spelling of Samlesbury?

There are lots of Rose baptisms at Samlesbury at that time.

Samlesbury is pronounced "Sarmsbury", and it's also close to Preston, where the niece Ann was born.

There is a John Rose baptised 30th Jan 1786 at Samlesbury, parents "Rd." and Agatha.
