I received an email from FindMyPast yesterday informing me my subscription had been updated, as I had changed my membership & hoping I enjoyed the new subs, which starts straight away.
I renewed last January & haven't upgraded, so this is a puzzle. Has any one else received a similar email? I thought at first it could be a scam, but the email came from noreply@findmypast.co.uk so nothing to click on ???

Have you checked your account details?
-
I also had a similar email from them and as far as I can see, from checking 'My Account', no money has been taken and my renewal date is the same as it was prior to receiving yesterday's email. In other words nothing has changed - I think it may have been a catching up with the paperwork type of exercise.

Hi
Yes I received the same email yesterday, my sub was renewed in April but I also hadn't upgraded. Checked my account details & they are as I expected them to be. Very strange.!

I did check my details too & nothing changed. Thank you all for replying, it's put my mind at rest ;D

Same received here.
No changes in my account details, but have emailed them to query the purpose of their email.
I'll report back when (if) they reply.
I'm wondering if it is connected to the email they sent out warning that when my sub renews (December) it will be £5 more (before any loyalty discount). Maybe them altering that in the background triggered an automatic mail. We'll see....maybe.

Just to add that I had it too.

For me the email about the new subscription rate, increase described as only £5 a year with no mention to of loyalty discount, when it would actually be £32 increase, was followed the next day by the email saying I had changed my subscription when I had done nothing at all. This seemed to me such poor customer communication that I messaged them. Reply is apologetic, says the email about the subscription change was sent in error and I can check the subscription rate on their website. I would be more reassured if they communicated more carefully.

Totally agree with you Drosybont.
Thanks everyone for the replies :)

Well, they replied:
"Thank you for your email.
We apologise for any confusion or concern caused by the email received advising 'Your subscription has been updated'.
This has been sent in error.
To confirm your current subscription remains as it was including any auto-renewal status and no changes to price will take effect until your next renewal date.
You can check your renewal information and price via the My Subscription section of My Account when logged in.
I hope this helps explain."

Thanks for sharing the reply with us all ReadyDale ;D

They sent me one saying I was going to be on a special 'Find My Past IE' product. I asked for evidence that I had changed my product and they soon back tracked, though obviously they have shown their hand.
Another increase brings them very close to 'not worth the money' territory.

I'm starting to think the same & perhaps just staying with Ancestry :-\

Some public libraries give access to Find my Past. Hope this helps.

Findmypast is a UK-based online genealogy service owned, since 2007, by British newspaper company DC Thomson, based in Dundee. The website hosts billions of searchable records of census, directory and historical record information.
"DC Thomson’s revenues grow £14m in 2021/22 financial year"

Thanks for that info Rena. I always thought FindMyPast was owned by a US company.
It may come to me using that access at the library in the near future Jackella, if I opt out of subscribing to FindMyPast.
