Title: Gordano Sources
Post by: Jeremy Pyne on Tuesday 09 May 23 14:39 BST (UK)
My family history brickwall  concerns a family of blacksmiths (name of Pyne/Pine/Paine), in the Gordano area south of Bristol. I'm looking for advice on other sources , beyond the obvious - pre census , period c1790 - 1830, ie other than parish records, church accounts and tithe records. Particularly interested in Weston in Gordano, Tickenham and Walton in Gordano. Any thoughts on specific sources and where they may be held  - I have some familiarity with the Somerset Heritage Centre and Bristol Records office. Many thanks

Yes thanks for those - I'd tracked these down previously, but appreciate the replies. Not sure if quarter sessions are worth trawlng through. See Mary's site has some extracts. I really need to focus in on anything around that 30/40 years around 1790-1830... to try and work out where my Joe Pyne Blacksmith came from - tantalisingly there were  possible family members popping up as witnesses in Weston in the 1820's who don't seem to be living there. Variations in name spelling don't help. Ho hum

Did Joe survive to the 1851 census? Birthplace should be on there.
1841 census will only show "whether born in county".

No afraid not. Annoyingly he died 6 months before the 51 census 🙁
