Title: Census for Forton, Lancs.
Post by: tortiegirl on Friday 05 May 23 09:42 BST (UK)
Am just starting researching the history of a house in Forton called The Elms for a friend. The only name they have is Braddock which was who they bought it off. Anyone know any info?

I've had a look at the 1921 census and two families are living at that address.  Ann Float and her son Arthur and the Meadows family, husband, wife and daughter.

I'll have a look and see if I can locate this address in the 1939 register.

Nothing coming up for The Elms in the 1939.

Added:  If the house is/was called The Elms then it must have been in a road with a name.  Does your friend know the name of the road?

I've come up with this from a property website:-

The Elms, Wallace Lane, Forton, Preston, Wyre, Lancashire, PR3 0BA

Last sold in May 2011 for £280,000.

I'll see if I can get anywhere for Wallace Lane in the 1939.

I think it is Wallace Lane. There are a couple of newspapers snippets regarding sales of the g house but no names.
The former occupant is shown in electoral registers 2004/7 and is found under her maiden name in 1939 but not at that address.

Yes, Heywood I've come to the conclusion that it is in Wallace Lane.  The Land Registry is a possible option but it does cost money to find out who owners were of a property.

The other cheaper? way would be to go through electoral registers which would be quite a slog.
