I have got just a couple of things I wanted to view on Ancestry and have wondered about looking at my library. I think they have the "Library Edition". Does anyone know if this has all of Ancestry`s records?
I was mainly interested in Wills and probate

This was one of the answers from Mr G:
Is Ancestry free at libraries in the UK?
It has unparalleled coverage of the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as collections from other areas of the world. You can use Ancestry (Library Edition) for free as part of your library membership.
-
The library edition has all the records to the best of my knowledge. You can't sign into your own account, so you cannot look at DNA matches, messages, or work on your own tree.
-
thankyou
-
You can send things to yourself (eg a census page) by email.
-
I don’t think they have family tress, but they do have everything else.
-
I can't remember if public trees are available on Library Edition, Ruskie.
Here in South Australia, we were lucky to be able to access the Library Edition remotely during Covid lockdowns and restrictions.
-
Yes, Public trees are available to view.
I frequently use Library Edition at my local library.
Always take a USB memory stick with me!
So I Save to local disk, and then copy all downloaded images to USB, for later use at home.

From the horse's mouth (https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/article/Ancestry-Institution):
"These features aren't available on AncestryLibrary:
Family trees
The Member Directory
Ancestry Message Boards
AncestryDNA®
The following record collections:
Historical Newspaper Collection
Family and Local History Collection
Obituary Collection
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index
Biography Genealogy Master Index
Freedman's Bank Records"

thanks again, that`s really helpful.
I think I have to book a slot but will enquire next time I go to my library
-
For anyone in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the libraries have both Ancestry and Findmypast.

To be clear, the "Family Trees" feature mentioned here is the ability to make your own tree. It is possible to browse public family trees using the library edition.

Using Ancestry at Liverpool libraries all the features you would expect to use are available including viewing public family trees, Ancestry collections such as various baptism, marriage and burial records, census records, 1939 Register, some electoral registers, some directories etc. There are some exceptions with Find My Past in Liverpool libraries some collections are not included.

The basement of the Society of Genealogists should have the Ancestry Library edition. It was in 2004 when I looked at my 2xgreat gran in Bow, London in 1871 census aged 7, and her birthplace was listed as "Sussex" which shocked me, when future censuses always said London Stoke Newington. However I knew by then birthplaces were not always accurate but the birth cert (I later obtained) backed up the Sussex birth.
Her 6 year old sister was said to be born London. I found out the family moved to London when great great gran was a baby.

It DOESN'T include electoral registers

Depending on which era you're searching keep in mind TNA's online catalogue features some wills, which can be downloaded for free.

Any in particular? Just looked when I signed in at home to Library edition now and they are all there.
