Title: William Heath marriage
Post by: aeroqueen on Friday 07 April 23 22:04 BST (UK)
Hi
please can anyone help me locate a marriage for a William Heath to a Sarah unknown surname ?
i have the family in the 1881 census living at 20 wellington Middlesbrough which gives William Heath age 30 born 1851 Barnetby Lincolnshire
Sarah wife age 29 born 1852 Ireland
Elizabeth Heath dau age 9 born Middlesbrough
Thomas Heath son age 5 born Middlesbrough
in 1891 the family are in Hartlepool living in High street with 2 more children {no sign of the first 2}
William Heath born Lincolnshire age 40 general labourer
Sarah Heath age 40 born Ireland
Edward Heath age 9 born Middlesbrough
Maria Heath age 6 born Middlesbrough
i also have the family in 1901 and 1911
for William i have him in 1851 in Lincolnshire  and in 1861 and 1871 with his parents in Middlesbrough. The 1871 census records him as being unmarried.
the other puzzle i have is in the 1911 census  living in Peel street southbank it shows William Heath age 61 born Barnetby Lincoln
Sarah age 59 but it states married 30 years with 2 children born  2 alive and 0 for deaths so im scratching my head as to why
i apologise for the long winded post  kind regards Meg

I also like this one, Carole:

HEATH, MARIA       CONWAY
GRO Reference: 1885  M Quarter in MIDDLESBROUGH  Volume 09D  Page 591

As there is a matching one for Edward, who also appears with them on the 1891 census:

HEATH, EDWARD       CONWAY
GRO Reference: 1881  S Quarter in MIDDLESBROUGH  Volume 09D  Page 560

Cannot yet find any likely registrations for the children on the 1881.

I think the other children were registered with the Mother's name - WASS ?

I wondered about that too, but there are Heath mmn Wass children registered from 1857-1877 and there is an 1855 marriage between a Richard Heath and Hannah Wass in Ripon, where most of the children were registered.

Interesting
here in Garston,Liverpool is a family named Wass - not a common name - Garston is the last Dock in the South of Liverpool - my friend Gordon Wass who passed away about 10 years ago told me that Wass was a name from The Netherlands ...   his ancestors were Merchant Seamen ...

Just throwing this into the mix as a possible. In the 1911 census Sarah records her pob as "Filkn" ??Tyrone born c1852. Could this be her 1st marriage.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1868/11475/8217906.pdf

Not sure what is recorded as her abode on marriage.

She appears with her family in 1871

Great minds think alike!  I can't find any children for Patrick and Sarah using all the spelling variations that I can think of and can't find them together after 1871.  Some of Sarah's siblings seem to have ended up in Middlesbrough.

"Filkn" - I thought it might start with an 'S' - Sarah CONWAY/McCARTIN was from the townland of Sultan.

The trouble with the Irish is that you can't rely on them to register births in England so if Elizabeth and Thomas are her children they may not be registered.

Added, re the above census.

Recorded above William and Sarah is a Frank Conway aged 16 born Middlesborough. He is the son of Sarah's brother Bernard Conway and Elizabeth Hart who married 1876 Middlesborough.

CONWAY, FRANCIS       mmn HART

Also a Winifred Gallagher born 1895 Middlesborough mmn Hart, looks as though Bernard has died and Elizabeth Conway nee' Hart has remarried.

Hi Meg, Maria Heath born 1885 married Ernest Arthur Andrews in 1901 Middlesborough. They appear together in 1911 census with 3 children. Also on this record are her brother Edward Heath and 2 Cross children who are niece and nephew.

Ernest Arthur died during ww1 and Maria remarried George W Thompson in 1918 Middlesborough. They appear together in 1921 census with her children from 1st marriage plus a new daughter born 1921. Another daughter was born 1923. Maria and George with one daughter on 1939 war register. This daughter married a Mr McLinn and she can be followed having children and death.

Believe this to be Marias death

Iv'e spent some time trying to look for Edward after 1911 census but not having a lot of luck.
