I have a death certificate which records a death in 1943 at:
Registration District - Battersea
Sub-district - St. James' Hospital
Metropolitan Borough of Battersea
The burial register (West Norwood Cemetery) states death at 'St. James' Hospital' without giving an address.
I know there was a St. James' Hospital in Balham, but I could not find a St. James' Hospital further north in Battersea.
Was the hospital in Balham (near Ouseley Road, Balham - now closed) the one referred to in these records?

This is the information about the Battersea Registration District:-
BATTERSEA REGISTRATION DISTRICT
Registration County : London.
Created : 1.4.1930 (out of Wandsworth registration district).
Abolished : 1.4.1965 (added to Wandsworth registration district).
Sub-districts : North Battersea; South Battersea; St. James Hospital
GRO volumes : 1d (1930–46); 5C (1946–65).
District number : 23 (1930–46); 218 (1946–65).
I cannot seem to find out what registration district Balham would have been in. I've no idea what the distance is between Battersea and Balham so Balham could have been regarded as part of Battersea.

Yes, it's the same place. There was only one St James' Hospital in that area. It was formerly the workhouse infirmary for the Wandsworth & Clapham poor law union.

The Metropolitan Borough of Battersea covered parts of Wandsworth registration district.
