I have been trying to access New Zealand's Papers Past for the last couple of days but keep getting an error page coming up. (Error 20 The proxy failed to connect to the web server, due to TCP connection timeout.) Does anyone know if there is an ongoing problem, or maybe the issue is at my end?
Grateful for any thoughts or info.

Hello.
I lost access yesterday lunch time. Had been using it extensively over Thursday, and Friday until then, sifting through 3,000 broad search hits, and are only 700 in.

Had a look just now and appears to be working okay.

I got a similar message the several times I tried to reconnect. I had just assumed, that other users in my household, were competing for the avaiable, copper wire conectivity/capacity.

All good for my return yesterday afternoon. A mate recons one of our leading telco's has been having some connectivity issues, so that might have been the reason for a slow responce time.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my post. I am sort of reassured that others have a problem but it is encouraging that others have no problems at all.
I wrote to the National Library and they came back to say there is no problem. Unfortunately, I still can't access - and I have tried 3 different computers, both Apple and Windows. It is very frustrating, but if anyone has any ideas about a solution, that would be great.
I will start a new thread on the subject of my research.

I still can't access the site either, so I've also contacted them and am still awaiting a response.
I wonder if its somehow a geographical thing, as those not having a problem seem to be NZ/Aus based?

Haven't been able to access site for a few days. Cannot even contact Papers Past to report problem. Every link I go to simply returns error 20.
So frustrating.

Can you recall Emerson V of PapersPast giving advise in the past about clearing all site access cookies, and making a fresh start of linking in, with regard to site access issues.
Afraid too technical for me, but you may remember. Something about updates making some cookies redundant.

Don't know whether this helps or not but I found this from Papers Past......
'If you see anything funny happen particularly with lists of search results, just close any PP tabs you have open, delete the PP cookies from your browser, then you're all good to go again.
If any of you have any issues seeing the new material, try clearing your cookies and doing a hard refresh on the webpage (Ctrl-F5 on a windows machine, Shift-Cmd-R on a Mac), that will sort things out'.

I joined up here to say that I have also been having the Error 20 problem for a number of days from the US. I have written to the National Library of NZ but haven't had a response yet. It doesn't come and go like some others reported; it just doesn't work for me at all.
I hope they identify the problem soon.

I've just had a reply via their Facebook page as follows:
"our tech team is aware of this problem and they are working really hard on co-ordinating a solution to it. Our sincere apologies for the outage. We'll let you know as soon as it's fixed"

Could someone please explain why I am unable to access the National Library of New Zealand website, especially Papers Past, from the UK. I keep getting an esoteric message "ERROR 20".

I checked on IsItDown (https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/paperspast.natlib.gov.nz.html ) and the website is indeed down so not just you.

I read the other thread and found it strange that there are people similar to myself and yet others with straightforward access. Natlib seem half-heartedly to recognise the problem??? I will try and access periodically I suppose.

Greetings from NZ.
I was in contact with Emerson, of Papers Past by email this week, and he and Jason, who lead the NZ National Library PAPERS PAST service, do an excellent job. Nothing half hearted about it.
I was not discussing this particular issue, but I know that they are working on technical issues at this time.
Hopefully full access will be restored shortly.
