I have birth locations of Poorkonsch Earglockhart which doesn't seem to exist. Can I have help deciphering the actual location please? Thanks.

Caroline, Did you mean to attach something, so we can see what is written?
Without any information, or seeing what is written, I might guess at Craiglockhart - a suburb in the south west of Edinburgh?
Poorkonsch = maybe Poorhouse

I did forget and will attach it now. I first saw it on hints in Ancestry Trees and ignored it given it didn't make sense. But it was listed as her birthplace in her brothers military records. Given it's his record there's nothing in it that helps me figure it out. The family were living in Bathgate West Lothian for her brothers birth 11 months later and for the next sibling. Always in West Lothian. HTH.
Thanks Neale.

Oh! it is one of Ancestry's brillant transcriptions. :D
I think if you look at the original document it will say "Poorhouse Craiglockhart".
I will see if I can access the original.

Yes they're just so helpful! :D TY for your help.
-
Although that part of the document is a bit patchy, Yes it clearly says "Poorhouse"
- The next bit which is less clear is "Craiglockhart"
Then there is an address in 29 Deans Row Bathgate, which is where they were living in 1915 when the father attested to join the army. Bathgate is in West Lothian.
I read it as Ethel was born in 1913 at the Craiglockhart Poorhouse, and the other two boys were born in Bathgate at Deans Row.
I am sure someone will come along in the next "shift" and give you more information, in the meanwhile there is the link I posted above to the poorhouse.

Brilliant! I've just been reading up on it, very interesting.

Duncan McIntyre, mother's maiden surname Webster, registered in Bathgate 1914/662.1/144

Parents' marriage Bathgate 1913/662.1/58 will tell you the full names of both the couple's parents, including their mothers' maiden names.

It looks like Thomas Kerr McIntyre spent much of his life in Bathgate at 28 Deans Row. The family is there in the 1901 census, and the father Duncan is listed as occupier there in 1905 - 1915. By 1920 he had moved to no. 10 Deans Row.
Looks as if Thomas and wife and family stayed with his parents for a while then.

Thank you both so much. I've only recently begun researching my Scottish ancestors, the McNairs, so knowing where to look is very much a work in progress.

Where to look, basically, is Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

Thank you, that site will be my best friend for the next little while.
