Title: Raincoat factory in walsall
Post by: Erica McP on Wednesday 15 March 23 01:31 GMT (UK)
Hi, I know it’s a long shot but I think My dad was related to the owner of a raincoat and rubber factory that was behind mill lane, butts in walsall. I remember it as a child as my grannie lived at No 81 mill lane and her garden wall met the factory land and the factory with lots of blacked out windows was to the left. Now 45 years on from my memory the factory has gone. I don’t know of the name of it or who was the registered owner and have tried to do some research but to no avail. I live in the northeast in Darlington so I’m not close either to go to the walsall archives either. Can anyone shed any light on this factory and it’s owner? My dad was born in 1928 so it’s the owner around that time I’m
Interested in. Thank u for your time and any help u can give me

Is 81 Mill Lane then, the same as 81 Mill lane now?

Was your Granny Bertha Downing?

Have you built out a tree and looked at all descendants of say two earlier generations removed  in  the 1939 register?

There are 1930s and 1940s newspaper mentions of M E Davies & Co Ltd of Mill Lane, Butts, Walsall, belt buckle manufacturers.

Looking at Google streetview there is an alleyway next to number 78 which may have led to a factory.

Is this the former factory building?
