Title: Requesting an overseas military birth record?
Post by: frizzante on Thursday 09 March 23 12:18 GMT (UK)
I've found a birth record of interest on FindMyPast in their 'GRO Regimental Birth Indices (1761 To 1924)' collection.

Can I request this record on the GRO Application for an Overseas Birth certificate page? Or is there a special area for military births? The reference on FindMyPast is just REG1. There's a volume/page/line, but the GRO page only asks for the GRO reference number.

The birth does not appear in the regular GRO index.

Any suggestions for how to properly request this record from the GRO would be very much appreciated.  :)

Yes you can. On the Start Application page, choose the third option "Outside the United Kingdom and registered by the British Forces, Consul or High Commission"

Then choose the "I Know the GRO reference " option.

Then in the GRO reference option enter as much info as possible: Title of the index; place; year(s); volume, page number. I haven't done this for a while but that should work.

Thanks, ShaunJ. I've just requested it using your advice.  :)

You should receive it without problem frizzante -- I obtained one in the same way.
