I am looking at a family that through 1851 to 1881 lived in Bridge Street Wrexham, number 22 on some returns
In 1851 the family is
John Roberts age 35 born Bala
Elizabeth Roberts age 29 born Wrexham (on future census she is born Chester)
David Roberts age 10 (in 1861 he is 22!)
Also daughter Margaret appears to have been born 1840 but is missing in 1851
Is anyone able to take a look at the 1841 and see if John and Elizabeth, maybe David and Margaret are there please

The 1841 census for Wrexham District is missing.
A part of Wrexham Town was found.
You might find them here under the surname.

Thank you for the reply
I'm sorry I wasn't clearer, I knew the 1841 census was missing and was hoping someone who had access to the small part that had been found would take a look for me, Bridge St is very close to the town centre :)

I have the booklet that lists the Wrexham ones that were saved.
Who do you want to find?

Add - I see you've listed them. I'll have a look and report back :)

I'm not finding them in Bridge Street or that area in 1841.
On the 1851, the children after David are:
Margaret - 8, Catherine - 6. Elizabeth - 4, John - 3, Hugh 1
In 1861, the children look as if they are down as being born Ross (?Rhos or Rossett??) but them Wrexham in 1871!
Do you know Elizabeth's maiden name and when they married?

Elizabeth's maiden name appears to be Humphreys based on children in the census.
There are two families Roberts/Humphreys registering children in Wrexham 1839-1855.
A John Roberts married Elizabeth Humphreys 1837 registered Owestry
-
I don't see any parish or non-c baptisms for them to get location/address so Linda might have to get birth cert for David to give an indication of location/
-
The marriage of Dec 7 1837 was in Chirk , John was 22 and Elizabeth was 20. Fathers were David Roberts and William Humphries. Chirk was in the Oswestry Reg District at that time.
John is down as Wheelwright and Elizabeth a servant.
I see that I have looked at the record before!
The address looks like Blaenu, Chirk for both. Although I lived in the area for many years, I can't think of where that would be :-\

all of your posts about the family above are what I also have found, I'm looking at old maps now for anything that resembles Blaenu in the Chirk area, the 1841 would have been useful to confirm the ages of the 2 older children. They may have been elsewhere in Wrexham, thank you for looking for me

There is a Blaenau Road between Chirk and Froncysyllte, on old maps there are 2 dwellings called Blaenau Uchaf and Blaenau dwr
-
Johnv is down as a wheelwright or similar in all the records that I've looked at. I know of at least 2 smithys/forges in Chirk -
A smithy on Station Road, close to the main village. It was a cafe by my time!
The Forge, in Pontyblew, at the eastern edge of the parish on the Ceiriog, just before it flows into the Dee. My grandmother was born there.
Possibles - I think there was also one east of the Castle, one at Whitehurst and one at Pentre.
Was David's birth registered in the WRexham RD or Oswestry?

Are they on the OS maps on the Scottish site?

yes they are, on the 6 inch 1888 - 1913,
I have found 4 households under Blaenn (looks like Blaenu on the image) on the 1841 census but the family aren't there
-
Found them on Streetmap. I see why they're called Blaenau - quite high up there

We used to occasionally walk to Llangollen along those top roads but I never knew those names!

I think this might be David's birth cert:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROBERTS, DAVID HUMPHREYS
GRO Reference: 1838 D Quarter in WREXHAM Volume 27 Page 236
It's the only one showing.
-
Could this be Margaret:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROBERTS, MARGARET HUMPHREYS
GRO Reference: 1840 S Quarter in WREXHAM Volume 27 Page 247
A little earlier but only one showing on GRO index.

If you search for "Chirk and Roberts " a couple of entries come up both with similar names to Blaunau
20 / 33. Joseph Roberts.
You can check the plot number to see where they were.,
Joseph Roberts 45 is at Blauna in Chirk in 1841.
It's not likely he's the same family but it all may help with the location ...... or not 😀

The only one I can find as well, the 1841 census would have confirmed it

Any David Roberts around there?
-
Got them in my 1841 booklet. They are in Brook Street. John a whitesmith
Will type them up as there are quite a few!
No wrong age and no David :(
-
Sorry about that.
I've now gone through the whole of the available Wrexham 1841 checking on those names via the index and then searched for the listed address number by cross checking, but none came up. They must have been in the surrounding area. (It's not like a usual census listing )
You might have to get Margaret's birth cert.

There were many John and Elizabeth Roberts in Wrexham and their age wasn't given in the index.

Hi Gadget, I'm new to the forum and am looking for a family in Wrexham in 1841. Just read this thread - you're a VERY helpful person!
I wonder if you have time at some point if you could have a look for Thomas and Elizabeth (or Eliza) Swinnerton, living in Wrexham possible near the Tuttle Street/Yorkshire Square/Old Yorkshire Hall area. They would be around 45 (Thomas) and 55 (Elizabeth) and I think Thomas is a skinner.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-
Hello and welcome.
I'll see if I can find them but not for a few days.
