Looking for opinions on a date please from Jim and Gadget. His name on the back says Harry Laud or Land. Do use it for practise if you wish, but be aware that I won't be using any of them ;)
Thanks for looking.

What a little cutie :)
I'm torn with the dating though. He has button boots and a broderie anglaise ?? over dress. It suggests Edwardian but could be a decade or so earlier. I hope Jim can help.
I have a pic of my Mum in about 1913 with a similar over dress but she had little clogs :)

I thought early Edwardian too, it's a boy Gadget, it says either Laud or Land on the back but not sure. The name seems to change between the two.

I've just written a post about the back which I'd not seen before. This suggests very much late Edwardian to early 1910s. It's not there now. I think I must have looked at something else and not pressed 'post' ::) ::)
-
Thanks for that, children are not easy to date and there is no stamp box.
Carol
-
Do you have any idea where it was taken? It might be able to identify him from that :-\
Just seen Hull on the back!! :-[
-
I've found a Harry Laud b.c. 1908/1909, Hull. In Sculcoates later.

I looked for advertisements etc from the studio address. I found that G W Batty (prob. born Hull 1879) owned a shop at 266 Hessle Road from the mid 1900's, with various names: “Batty's All Sorts Shop”, “Batty's”, “Batty's Only Shop”, selling housewares, secondhand furniture, and the like, and by 1908 “Batty's Picture Gallery", and from May 1909, "Standard Photo Co.”.
In Feb 1914 there seems to have been a bankruptcy or debt sale, and by 1919 the address is selling musical instruments.
Going by the adverts then this picture must have been taken in the narrow window 1909 to 1914.

Just a couple of little ones as trials
-
Aw, they are beautiful Gadget, lovely subtle colouring. Very natural.
Carol
-
Thanks, Carol :)
I'm mixing the colours differently,
-
He looks too pretty to be a boy don't you think.
-
He would make a very beautiful woman, I'd think. Lovely hair too.
-
I've just, in the last 1/2 hour, managed to reload my old Nik software and just tried this - a bit too much blue in the green but I was playing!
It was messing up some of my tools in PSCC v 21-22. They've just updated to 23 and it seems to work again.
-
Wow, Gadget, those are really good.
-
Thanks for you kind words.
I used to do a lot of restores but my eyes started acting up. They seem OK at the moment. I'm using my laptop for working on images these days.
-
What an angelic little face on that little boy.
Gadget, lovely restores and beautiful choice of colouring.
-
Thanks, Neale :)
It's a lovely image, with little damage and Carol's scanning is really great, so it was enjoyable to do. If only all the pics uploaded here were as good as this one.

Beautiful work Gadget. My favourite is the first one. Colours are lovely and reminiscent of Gainsborough. Very nice indeed.
-
I agree, really beautiful work Gadget! Such a lovely photo, somehow very poignant.
-
Thank you both :-*
-
They are beautiful restores Gadget :)
-
Thanks, Trish :)
I'm getting embarrassed with all the lovely comments now ;D
-
You have that understanding of the importance of authenticity and deserve the feedback.
We have become so used to seeing false representations using one click aps, that when a true restore and colour comes along, the difference shows ;)
Carol
-
It was a good scan by you and the image wasn't too badly marked and these are very important too.
:)
-
Here's a practice one from me
Pat
-
Aw, that is really lovely Pat, he does look more like a girl than a boy though doesn't he.
Carol
-
Thank you Carol, he certainly does look like a very pretty girl. I would love to see a photo of him when he grows up, say 21 years old, to see if he makes a very handsome young man.
