Title: Southoe lookups please
Post by: EllyMayReid on Thursday 23 February 23 00:08 GMT (UK)
Hello Everyone

I wondered if you could help me please.

I have these entries from FamilySearch:

Raffe Douglaby bpt 12 Jul 1565 Southoe, Huntingdonshire

Rafe Dueblebye buried 12 Sep 1566   Huntingdonshire

Anne Dooggelbe bapt 20 Jun 1568 Southoe, Huntingdonshire, daughter of John Dooggelbe.

Agnes Doupylebye buried 21 Jul 1568 Huntingdonshire
daughter of J Doupylebye

Jane Dooggelbe bapt 20 Jun 1568 Event Place: Southoe, Huntingdonshire daughter of John Dooggelbe.

Jone Doupylebye buried   16 Jul 1568   Huntingdonshire
Father's Name   John Doupylebye

above 3 children APPEAR to be those of John DUGGLEBY (mispelled as is often the case!)

I am looking for a marriage of this John Duggleby in or around Southoe please.

But also any information as to why John may be so far from home - most Dugglebys were from Yorkshire.

Thank you

Elly

Hi Elly,

There is no marriage in the Southoe PR and the Hunts Marriage Indexes do not go back far enough.

The baptisms you mention did not take place at Southoe St Leonard - the Hunts Baptism Index lists the baptisms as Stanground. A transcription of the Stanground PRs does not appear in my list - it may be being transcribed, I will have to check. The burials also take place at Stanground.

Sorry not to have been more help!
Best wishes

Further,

I have spoken to our Projects lead and he has advised that Stanground was one of the missing PRs when we merged with the old Hunts FHS. We are in the process of photographing all the missing PRs from our Hunts collection so they can be transcribed and made searchable on our website.

Dubberley is still a local name in that neck of the woods ... indeed, it is the name of the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire (which now includes Huntingdonshire ... )

thank you.

Intersting how names get changed especially Duggleby - so far I have come across 187 variations.

there are only about 400 folks still alive today worldwide who were born with this name.
