Title: Looking for help to find John Mellor family
Post by: honestlove65 on Monday 20 February 23 13:58 GMT (UK)

Hello can anyone help me find John Mellor family in the census I think 1851 it says he's born flash Cheshire I'm not good at geography but I found him christened in burslam parish 22 July 1804 his parents Richard Mellor and Elizabeth. I found two siblings at same parish. Ann christened 17th Jan and Thomas 29th June but I carnt seem to find them in census.

John Mellor was born 1804 he married Mary ann forgot her maiden name she was born in Wadsley
They had daughter harriett Mellor born Wadsley Yorkshire 1852 and she married fredrick George Turner from Sheffield. They had other kids Thomas. Hugh. Mary. Fanny. Elizabeth. George.

Also found few Richard Mellor married but 3 or four Elizabeth's.
Thank you so much in advance

Burslem is in Staffordshire

Please post the full household details from the 1851 entry you found

You also need to include some info re birth/marriage dates for the names you mention "Richard Mellor married 3 or 4 Elizabeth's" is not really very helpful

John Mellor gives his birthplace as Flash, which is actually in North Staffordshire, not far from the Cheshire border.  I think he would be baptised closer to Flash, maybe in one of the nearby churches rather than in Burslem.
According to Harriet's birth details on the GRO website her mother's maiden name was Housley. Mellor is a very common name in Staffordshire. You really need their marriage certificate to see the name of John's father.
There is a marriage in the Dec QTR 1937 of John Mellor with Mary Ann Housley on the same page.

You say that John was born 1804 but the census you posted age 57 in 1851 would make him born c1794

ADDED You also say Harriet was born 1852 so that must be the 1861 census

The only place I can see in England called Flash below:

Flash is a village in the Staffordshire Moorlands, England, and Peak District National Park. At 1,519 feet above sea level, it is the highest village in the United Kingdom and was an early centre for Wesleyanism.

The nearest baptism below is 4 miles away. (Family Search)

John Mellor
Baptism 24 February 1805

Yes, Flash is close to a place called Three Shires Head where the counties of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire all meet.  Longnor would be a more realistic baptism place than Burslem. Also John's first child was called Thomas, possibly named after his father???
