Title: John Henry Vine Master Mariner
Post by: keith110639 on Sunday 19 February 23 09:20 GMT (UK)
Although I have a Ancestry subscription I cant seem to find my Gt Grandfather born at Spalding 1846 died 1923. Mostley wanted to find his Masters certificate and vessels he was on previously, I know he was with his father in 1861 at Caen as have that form but no other records. He lived in Spalding where he was born & at 22, Albert Street when he died.

There are details on Findmypast. His father was Matthew Southwell Vine, mariner, who married Hannah Buttler in Spalding on 25th May 1842

Parents: John Vine, miller, and Henry Buttler, mariner.

Louisa Vine was one of the witnesses.

John Vine's marriage certificate is available, as well as Matthew's

Do you have the newspaper article reporting his funeral ? It says he was Master of the Breeze for many years. The Mercantile Navy List 1880 lists Vine as the owner of the vessel :

Edit - I see from your post on Depear that you are probably already aware of the above.

Thanks Christine53, ShaunJ & DCB, I have all the information, census, marriage certs & obituary from newspaper, what I cannot find is his Masters Cert & record of vessels he served on before he was a Master. My grandmother was his daughter Edith Ada Seaton.
