Title: Old Men’s Home, Claremont, Western Australia
Post by: Lindyloowho on Saturday 18 February 23 14:12 GMT (UK)
I have a relative, John Ward, dying in the above place in 1927. He arrived in Fremantle, from England, in 1886. From his death certificate it appears he never married, or had children.
The W.A. Archives seem to have admission files on the home, and I have emailed them, but haven’t received a reply yet.

I wondered if there would be any other kind of Directories, Electoral Rolls that might indicate how long he had been in Claremont?

Thank you, Linda, Ontario, Canada

A Western Australian Death certificate of that era should contain -

Name
Date
Death place
Age
Occupation
Cause of death
Parents' names
Spouse names
Marriage details
Chns names
No of chn
Birthplace

It might help if you were to detail this information as a way of identifying the correct John WARD on electoral rolls as it is not an unusual name.

Adding.
A news notice regarding the distribution of his assets

Many, many thanks! This is indeed him, based on the details from the death certificate. He died 15 June, 1927, buried in Karrakatta 17 June. Originally from England, he had been in Australia for 41 years, age 65. No wife or children.
If they are indicating a distribution of assets, does this mean he left a Will?
If so, is it possible to get a copy? I assumed being in the home indicated he was poor?

Sorry, now I’ve read the notices more in-depth I realise he died intestate, so presumably no will!😂

Thank you Cass.  I too couldn’t find him in Family Search, but I will definitely follow up the “Dead Reckoning” indexes - they look promising!

According to the Perth Metropolitan Cemeteries Board website   mcb.wa.gov.au   John Ward died 15 June 1927 at Claremont (a Perth suburb), age 65 years and was laid to rest in Gravesite 0239, Section VC, Anglican Area, Karrakatta Cemetery.

The "Old Men's Home" to which you refer, underwent a name change to "Sunset Home" in 1943.
It appears Admission and Discharge records are available, refer:

Thank you, I do already have this information.😁

The archives unfortunately were unable to find anything pertaining to John in the home admissions etc. - they are not complete.

IMO "Incomplete Records" should be conspicuously annotated on any website. That is most unfortunate for you.
