Hello, can anyone have a guess at what this mans last name is?
The digitised record suggests his name is Cearney, but Scotlands people does not recognise this man.
I got the full census, and it looks like something else!
If its any help, to question "where born" he answers "Ireland".
I appreciate any help.
Thanks.

CLARNEY? Certainly a name that can be found in Ireland in early 1900s.
-
I think it is Cearney. I have seen this name with all sorts of spellings, including with an initial K.
-
Could be either Cearney or Clarney but, on balance, I think it's Clarney as the e before the y is smaller than the letter after C.
-
Is it possible to scan a little more of the page that includes a lower case L. - e.g.. Ireland
-
I see Cearney.

Thanks everyone, I dont know how you all see that first letter being a C looks like and LE to me!

Hello, thanks, please see attached.
The lower case Ls are certainly much taller, so I'll vote for Cearney :)

John
Its from the 1891 census, he appears as a boarder with my family. Hugh Mooney is the head of the family.
We wondered if he eventually married the lady who is identified as Elizabeth McIvor on the census who says she is my GG grandfathers Sister.
I also think Elizabeth might have been my GGG Grandmother Bridget (on some of her kids death certs. Elizabeth McIvor also known as Bridget Kerr) who just got misidentified on the census as sister rather than mother in law.
But Elizabeth McIvor could work as a sister as her mother would have been an Elizabeth/Bridget/Biddy Mooney, nee Kane.
Its possible, her second marriage was to a John but i cant find anything. This Elizabeth was born around 1841 in CO. Londonderry and so i have missed out on the catholic church baptism record being online.
Just a bit of back tracking to see if John Cearney married an Elizabeth McIvor (widow).
Thanks
