Title: Mortimer baptism in Steynton
Post by: Sikes on Monday 06 February 23 16:49 GMT (UK)
Hi all

There is a baptism in Steynton, Pembrokeshire for a son baptised 27 October 1771. Father is Philip Mortimer. The image is really bad or worn. Anyone got better eyes than me?  :-\  Or access to the register locally?

Please attach an image to your post.

This record is only available to view on findmypast, so those who do not have a subscription will not be able to help you.
The film on familysearch is locked.
Bishop's Transcripts start later than this date of 1771.

Thank you goldie61

I've attached one with the area highlighted and one without.

My guess is Thomas partially obliterated by a redundant black hoop.

Possibly William, but it's very difficult to make out.

I tried enhancing it, but it was no clearer.
Maybe one of the photo whizz people on here can do better.

You could always write to where the record is held (Pembrokeshire RO?), and ask them if they can tell what it is from the original register.
I've done similar things before now. I've always found RO staff very helpful.
These black and white films, on the whole done many, many years ago, don't cope very well with some registers.

I'm hoping its Philip. Getting in touch with the Pembrokeshire RO might be the best option.
