Hello,
Would anyone know where the medical files for a patient of Sarsfield Court would be held? A deceased relative of mine was treated there in 1964/1965 and i'm trying to find out what the condition was. I know he received the last rights while there but he survived and was released about a month later.

These are the rules in England but think they may well apply in Ireland as well

Here is a pdf on access to records in the Republic of Ireland.

....and for Northern Ireland.

Thanks, but that's about who can request, it does not give information about where to request to? for a specific hospital back to 1964/1965.

Have you contacted the National Archives Ireland to see if they can help you?

Yes I have, they don't have the records for Sarsfield Court, Cork, which is now long closed, they could not help me with where those records would not be.

It doesn't matter who holds the Sarsfield Court records - the same access rules apply.
Is this the same place?

I'm sorry I dont understand why people are advising on access - I have access as Executor of the estate, I am trying to find out where I would request it. That's all I need to know where would the file be.

How were we to know you were an executor? Nothing in your post or replies and the admission was 59yrs ago.

This is a link to Patient records at CUH it might be possible to contact the HSE re St. Stephen's hospital records. It states you can apply for a deceased patient's records under the "Freedom of Information Act". How long they have kept records from the 60s I don't know. A lot of site say they are only retained up to 10 years after someone dies with some exceptions for younger people.
https://cuh.hse.ie/patients-visitors/freedom-of-information/
On other sites it states that Patient records are held for a maximum of 10 years.
Did you phone St. Stephen's hospital. It is still operating as a hospital.
Hope this helps.

Sarsfield Court was a Tuberculosis Sanatorium in the 1960's. I had an aunt who was treated there in 1962/1963.
