Does anyone have access to school registers in Bangalow N.S.W? I'm looking for a Roy Howard Baker born 1916 in Bangalow. TIA.
-
Can't help with school records I'm afraid, you may have already seen there is this item from 1948 about his receiving the Military Medal.

Probably Roy in 1935 at a fancy dress dance

Hi there. Yes I have seen those 2 articles.

The NSW archives seem to have 2 files that might be of interest, but they don't seem to be online:

Why are you particularly requesting school record information, may I ask?
Are you certain that he attended a school there?
Adding I see TreeSpirit's link suggest he did.

Sorry for not replying sooner. The reason why I want his school records is to confirm that he attended school in Bangalow. Thank you everyone for your help.

A "Punishment Book", my goodness, I had no idea such a thing existed, and up to 1970!

Not definite proof that Roy went to Bangalow Public School, however there is this item which mentions Lionel BAKER performing at the school concert in 1933. I'm assuming Lionel is Roy's brother (both births registered at Byron Bay with parents John and Rebecca). Also assuming brothers would attend the same school.

Also this item from 1934 which mentions E. BAKER and R. BAKER as taking part in a concert at Bangalow Cof E Sunday School. If they were Cof E, unlikely to have attended "St Joseph's School, Bangalow".

Possibly his parents leaving Bangalow and moving to Byron Bay in 1939. "Jack" BAKER had been an active member of the School P&C.

Just a note on this news clip about the C of E Sunday School Concert.
E. BAKER is likely Enid Elsie, the sister of Roy. So certainly in the right place but.....were they schooled there ???
I have not seen the birth of Lionel BAKER to John and Rebecca Elizabeth, though there was an infant death for a boy of Rebecca's before her marriage.

Lionel J BAKER birth registered Byron Bay 1921, (25979/1921 ) parents John and Rebecca E. :)

I was not aware of a Lionel Baker as a brother of Roy Baker. His mother's name was Rebecca Elizabeth so t is a definite possibility and I'll be looking into that. She did have a son in 1912 (out of wedlock) that died.
I doubt very much that it was Roy in 1933 and 1934 in the school concert and the Sunday school concert as he would have been 16/17 years old then and no longer going to school. They did however at some time live in Byron Bay also.

I found these last night but still need to do further research. Not that I'm complaining. ;)

As per my reply, Lionel was the brother reported as appearing at the school concert in 1933, as he would have been around 11 at the time that sounds right. I agree that Roy may be little old to be the R. BAKER in the Sunday School concert in 1934, not impossible though as "Sunday School" could include high school aged children. However it mentions E. BAKER as a senior girl, so presumably Enid aged around 15.

Don’t know who he danced with, but Lionel very graceful in 1931 ;D

It's beginning to look like "John (Jack) Baker" and John Baker are two different people. In fact there are more than a couple of John Baker's living in Byron Bay and Bangalow. I notice on the electoral records that Roy Howard was living with John and Rebecca Baker. I don't think that Lionel was his brother.
-
Lionel John BAKER-
You need to look properly at his service history to which you have been directed.
Please read the NOK details at the very top of the digitised document.
MOTHER-- Rebecca Elizabeth BAKER.
Please note her address and then compare this with the electoral rolls.

Oops, my bad. Yes I see it now. I only saw the Äudrey" as next of kin. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Yes I was aware that Audrey was his wife but it hadn't occurred to me to read at the top of the document. Instead I wasted no time to begin researching Audrey. Meanwhile, my search for Roy Baker continues.....
