Title: 2THRV what unit of the army was this ?

When signing up for WW1 Ancestor put he had served in 2THRV between 1896-1900 .

Can anyone help with this ?

I'd guess that the RV bit stands for Rifle Volunteers - a militia unit. Can you post a link or a snip?

Good evening,

It was part of the London Regt from 1908. previously one of 3 Tower Hamlet Volunteer units.

Thank you&  he did join the 17th London in WW1
