I am researching an Irish family who settled in Liverpool in 1848-1850. There eldest child was recorded on censuses as born in France.
The child was James Murphy and his assumed DoB was 1847 (he was 3 in 1851, but there was another child born in England in 1848). Parents were John Murphy and Sarah Kinsla/Kinsley/Kinsella. They were Catholics.
There are quite a lot of other families in and around Liverpool with children aged 3-5 born in France. I note that there was a 'revolution' in France in 1848, so I speculate that a lot of British and Irish people were in France and that they all came home in 1848.

Not managed to find anything yet. Generally need to know the Commune to track down French records, but have searched wider and used the variant Murphey. No joy yet.

It's a long shot, but I had a look at the census entries for Birkenhead, Liverpool and Cheshire families with children born in France. Most just say "France", but where a place is mentioned, Rouen is the most common, followed by Nantes. Others (as written on census) : Dunkerque, Onbyers, Manner, Ittervale.

Well done indeed. Many thanks Tree Spirit. There is lots of new information in that record for me.
Sarah (Sally) was only 20 and John 35. They can't have been in France very long. Is it possible that they married in France (or were never actually legally married?)? I am not sure if it was legal in Ireland for a woman to marry aged 20 or less.

Hi,
In the same place, there is a birth record (02/09/1846) for François KINSELES born to François KINSELES, 35, "terrassier", and his wife Brigide BRYAN(S), also 35. It mentions a marriage in Liverpool on September 1st 1844.
KINSELES sounds like KINSELLA
