I have found a Marriage between a Archibald Bane and Issobell Hunter 3 Nov 1598 same area Midlothian as Johnne Bane bapt 1598. The only problem is Archibald and Issobell had 4 children and one was named Johnne bapt 25 March 1610. Is it possible that this is the Mother to Johnne Bane 1598 but now I have my doubts as there would be 2 Johnne Bane's in the same family. The 1598 Johnne married a Jeane Seatoun (no date) and had several children.

If a child of a couple died, back then it was very common for families to re-use the same name on another child born later. Are there any burial records for the parish to see if the first Johnne died young? It is quite unusual, but not completely unheard of for two living children of the same person to have the same name.
-
Just to add: Assuming the children are all born to the same father, there is also the possibility of one of the names in the register being entered incorrectly. I have come across a few examples of this, certainly more frequently than I have come across two living children with the same name. That said, I have done little research in Scotland, so people can correct me if this may have been more common there in comparison to England and Wales.

Thankyou Chesters
John Bain bapt 1598 did not die but went on and Married Jeane Seatoun c1632-4 and sired many children. As for some families naming two living children with the same name, I have not come across this before. I hope this is one of the cases. I will check SPeople for any mistranslation. As I am doing this research for someone else I want to get it right. If I can join John Bain 1598 to the other family I can then move on to the next Bain. Thankyou again for your comments, most helpful

How do you know that it's the 1598 John who married Jeane Seatoune?

If 1st John was baptized March 4 March 1598, Isabel is not necessarily the mother as the marriage of Archibald and Isabel did not occur until November of that year,

not all trees are correct - check this out
Archibald Bane
Born 8 March 1571 (Monday) - Perth, Kinross-shire, Scotland
Deceased in 1628 - Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, aged 57 years old
father John Alexander Bane Laird of Tulloch Castle Bain - born in 1514 - Tulloch Castle, Dingwall, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland, deceased 29 October 1600 (Sunday) - Perth, Kinross-shire, Scotland aged 86 years old
mother Agnes Fraser - born in 1528 - Lovat, Inverness-shire, Scotland, deceased 29 January 1595 (Sunday) - Tulloch Kelichrist Inverness, West Lothian, Scotland aged 67 years old
this would mean Agnes would be 43 when Archibald was born

Archibald Bane

When was John/Jean's 1st child born?
Ok, just answered my own question.
On F/S we have;
James 1634
Issobell 1636
Susanna 1640
(Mother Jeane Seatoun)
There are others with Parents as Johnne Beane, Jonet Symsoun* or Jonet Jamesone
So I think this may be the Marriage on FreeREG;
11 Feb 1631/32
The Parish Church, Edinburgh
John BEAN, Bride SYMSONE (no christian name given)
Note; Beaine,Beane

Thanks Trish lovely photo by the way. My link is the Bapt of James 1634 parents Johnne Bain and Jeane Seatoun and they had 9 children. I'm not able to find their Marriage yet. Perhaps there is a transcription error for this marriage I will keep looking. Thankyou for your interest in this.

Please read over what I have posted again as on the Bapts Jeanne is down as Jeanne Seatoun and variants including Jonet Symsoun etc.
So that is why I think the Marriage I posted is correct.
I only had a transcription so maybe you can look at the actual image on Scotlandspeople :)
-
Thanks again Trish. I will look at SP for the Marriage I'm sure you are right as I am unable to find anything for Jeane Seatoun.
-
Let us know the outcome :)
-
Before I looked at SP I have found on Ancestry both Jonet Symsoun and a Janet Simson same Marriage date also I checked for children for Johnne Bean and Jonet Symsoun and Janet Simson and there is NO James Bean or Bain 1634 which my link in the Bain chain. The Bapt for James 1634 informs me his parents were Johnne Bain 1598 and Jeane Seatoun 1599, apart from not being able to find their marriage I am happy that this is the correct parents. As for the Marriage I am going to leave that for now as I have spent some time looking for it. Thankyou again for your interest if I do manage to find the Marriage you will be the first to know.

Good luck :)
