I registered recently having discovered posts existed on here regarding my GGGrandfather (I had searched his name and area of residence on Google) I discovered the thread by Holly Willowes and interventions on it by sw1132 and am pretty confident both are also descendants of my GGGrandfather, so I have posted on the thread to try and make contact, despite their posts being 2014. I've since discovered Holly Willowes was last active in 2019 and sw1132 in 2021, so I'm assuming neither are going to see my post on the thread re Jacob Davies of Denbighsire.
Sarah it seems you can initiate EMails to the individuals concerned alerting them to the activity on the thread? I am unable to PM you as I have only made the one post in the few days since I registered (this is Post number 2!)
Any assistance would be appreciated

Hello,
I can see that you have already replied on the topic here
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=562440.msg7402203#msg7402203
hopefully the member should have been notified by email of your reply :) sometimes you do have to allow a few days for the member to reply we are all in different time zones and not everyone checks their email daily.
Regards
Sarah

Ah Ok :) Thanks!

Where's the dilemma? I don't understand.
-
Being a "veteran" I suppose you would know how to contact two "user names" who have not posted on the site since 2021 and 2019?
I wasn't aware an E Mail to those posters would be automatically sent to them because of my posting. Now I know, to me what was a difficult problem is no longer a dilemma :P

Welcome to Rootschat Newbie2023.
When you register on here you provide your email address.
Every time you post a query on here an email is sent to you if someone else has replied to your query.
Sometimes that may be years later like you after googling and finding info on Rootschat.
People change email addresses and sadly some pass away and Rootschat is not notified so emails re replies get unanswered.
I hope that is not the case for you.
Trish :)

Thank you trish and yes I recieved your PM but haven't fathomed out how to reply to it by PM. Give me a week or two lol ::)

Hi Newbie2023,
Welcome to Rootschat!
Stick with us. This site will add so much to your family history research.
I just spent a weekend at first browsing the threads and absorbing how it all worked.
Then I plucked up courage to post a question. Something I had been chasing round for days was sorted in about 20 minutes!
Sometimes these days I can even chip in and help but usually I am not quick enough! Just seeing how the old hands tackle a conundrum will help your skills.
Best wishes, Tony.

Thanks antonymark for the encouragement because at the moment my head is spinning. I've been making brief visits to check on the reason I came on here but hopefully I'll stay around for a while longer once my brain takes it all in and keeps it in.....

Hi,
Quick answer about how to reply to Private Message.
You must be logged in>
Go to My Messages along the top brown banner. >
Hover, click read my messages>
Look through them to locate the one you want to reply to>
See Reply (round brown button)>
Do not touch Quote, do not touch Delete, just Relpy ;D
Type >
Send message.
Have a go ;)

"Every time you post a query on here an email is sent to you if someone else has replied to your query"
Not necessarily. Email notification is optional. Many people, myself included, have chosen not to receive such notification.
-
:'( :-\
So its sit and wait.....and wait....
So would admins be able to see on an account if EMail notifications disabled?
Can any admins comment? If the two individuals have, say opted for no email notifications, is there another way to prompt them to check the site or is that the end of the road?

Welcome to rootschat :)

So its sit and wait.....and wait....
You only posted on the other thread on the 16th, that is only 6 days ago ;D. I am sure that it is frustrating playing the waiting game but you will find it is not unusual to wait a long while for a reply or often not hear at all. I do hope that they come on soon and that you are able to exchange details. I assume that you have now sent them both PM's
Fingers crossed that you get a response soon

Like Erato I have disabled email notifications, but I think this only applies to replies on actual threads posted on Rootschat.
I still get email notification of a Personal Message, so if Newbie2023 has sent PMs to the two people concerned they ought to get email notifications. Assuming of course that they haven’t changed their email addresses since they last posted on Rootschat.
Edit: This is incorrect. See my reply #15.

I don't get emails for Private message or posts on topics. :)
My profile gives this-
RootsChat allows you to be notified by email of replies to posts, newly posted topics, and forum announcements. You can change those settings here, or oversee the topics and boards you are currently receiving email notifications for. -
Receive forum newsletters, announcements and important notifications by email. (This has been ticked)
Turn email notification on when you post or reply to a topic.
For topics and boards I've requested email notifications on, notify me: Instantly
For topics and boards I've requested email notification on, notify me of: Nothing at all

I don't get emails for Private message or posts on topics. :)
I see now that on the Personal Messaging page of ones profile there is a box marked
Notify by email every time you receive a personal message: and the options are 1) Always
2) never 3) from Buddies only (I have no idea what a Buddie is).
In my profile option 1 is enabled which is why I receive emails alerting me to PM's. Presumably Rosie has option 2 enabled.
Apologies for causing confusion. I'll leave quietly before I say anything else that's incorrect.

Thanks JenB don't apologise your posts have helped me lol

Hello. My username is Lolly Willowes but I am a Davies. Yes, we do seem to have Jacob in common. My grandfather Herbert Jacob was son of Jacob 1829-1912, who was the son of Jacob 1829-1897.
I haven't been on rootschat or done much family history for a while but I have quite a lot of detail about Jacob (some from asylum records) which I'd be happy to share.
You can contact me here or email me at

Sorry I had not noticed that JenB, thank you for pointing it out.

Fantastic news Lolly! sw1132 who is also a relative on your line has also responded so hopefully we can share some information and facts. Incidentally, I'm not from Wales but I posted a thread earlier in the Wales section regarding Jacob and you might like to check it out and possibly shed some light on the information I was given by a 2nd cousin in my line, which his mother told him before she sadly passed.
I'm excited to hear from you (and from sw1132).
Thank you Rootschat you rock! ;)

Dear Newbie,
I had given you a full reply regarding your topic and I had already checked that there was no problem with this members emails.
I have just been away for the weekend, I myself are unable topic up emails whilst I away, you do need to keep this in mind that some patience is required.
I am locking this topic now as I have fully replied to the topic that you sent for my response, you can post replies on the correct topic.
