Title: Daly Family in Airdrie area and Mossend
Post by: adaly on Sunday 15 January 23 13:53 GMT (UK)
I'm looking for info on John Daly and his wife Mary O'Neill.
John was born in Ireland in 1847 and Mary in Wales in 1849.
They were married in 1872 in St Margaret's in Airdrie.
They lived in Arden, Airdriehill, Longriggend, Greengairs and Caldercruix.
They moved to Waddell's Land in Mossend at some point in the 1890s.
They had 8 children.
I've found a decent amount of info already, just looking to see if anyone can add anything else.
Or if there are unknown relatives out there with further info.
Cheers folks.

As you already have more information, please post it here to avoid people duplicating work you have already done. In particular, names of the parents of John and Mary, names and dates of birth of the 8 children, any deaths you have found and names and dates of known descendants (but please don't include anyone who is still living).

If you could tell us exactly what info you are missing about them we may be able to help.  Their marriage cert will have parents names etc so if that's where you are stuck - let us have details

In 1881 Mary is shown as b Wales but in 1891 her birthplace is England.

1891 has them transcribed as Daily

Thanks for your replies folks.

I suppose I am throwing it out generally to see if anyone else is looking for the same family.

If I had to be specific, I am looking for more info on where John was from. I have conflicting reports.
One story is he is from a town near Boyle in Co Roscommon, another is that he is from Crettyard in Co Laois. Very different places.
His father was Michael Daly and his mother was Bridget Harmon/Harman/Hamlin (unsure of surname).
His children were Michael, Thomas, James, Alice, Mark, Bridget, John and Patrick.

I'd also be looking for for any local records that provide more detail on the family. I can't find any poor law records for them until after John died in 1898.

I've found them on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Scottish Census. I also found Mary on the 1901 and 1911 census.
I've got their marriage cert and most of the children's birth certs.

There is a 1910 Poor Relief application online which just shows her birthplace as Wales

Have you already tried Family Search for any marriage for John's parents in Ireland or any baptism for him?

The Crettyard Laois info is based off of someone's search for those combination of names. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I haven't found any other record those name combinations and the dates.

As you already have more information, please post it here. In particular, names and dates of birth of the 8 children, any deaths you have found and names and dates of known descendants
You forgot to add dates (years)/places of birth for the children which would've been helpful as it's easier to find people in our own trees at a glance when dates/circa dates are known.
I suppose I am throwing it out generally to see if anyone else is looking for the same family.

His father was Michael Daly and his mother was Bridget Harmon/Harman/Hamlin (unsure of surname).
His children were Michael, Thomas, James, Alice, Mark, Bridget, John and Patrick.
I have a Catherine Daly b c1899 in my tree, married to John M(a)cKinnon in the RC Church, Craigneuk (North Lanark) 1927, parents Peter & Catherine (ms McGowan).

Peter/Patrick interchangeable.

Catherine's address was 49 John Street, Craigneuk.
Witnesses were James Lagan, 10 Anderson St, Motherwell & Elizabeth Dorman, 18 Church St, Cambuslang

Catherine married my distant relative (2C2R), I have no other info. at this time but as she was in the same area (North Lanark), I'll see what I can dig up on her for a possible connection.

"John Daly and Mary O'Neill married in 1872 in St Margaret's in Airdrie"

Who were witnesses to the marriage, what were their addresses?

Often relationships can be worked out via extra info.
