I will be in Dublin for a few days and will be doing some family research while there. I have been working on my family history for many years and, like many of Irish descent, have run into many brick walls. I am planning visits to the National Library and National Archives. Are there any other places that would be of help in my search? I'm specifically trying to locate birth/baptism records and marriage records of ancestors. I seem to be at a dead end as far as online resources go and would like to know if any of these facilities offer guidance in helping break through brick walls. Thank you

Might be a good idea to have this thread moved to the Ireland General board where the experts can maybe help you.
You can ask the moderator to move your thread to that board by using the ‘Report to Moderator’ function.

Good luck to you, pholahan. I think you will need it as the National Archives of Ireland was burnt to the ground by the IRA in 1922. What records that are available are on-line -

.....the National Archives of Ireland was burnt to the ground by the IRA in 1922. .
Errrhhh - the NAI did not exist in 1922.
..the devastating destruction of the Public Record Office of Ireland, part of the Four Courts Complex, which housed seven centuries of Ireland’s historical record.

There's the GRO in Werburgh St for BMDs that aren't online.

Yah, well, what ever they called it in those days, it was still burnt down wasn't it?

Since it looks like you're doing research in the UK maybe you could help me break through another brick wall. My great grandfather, George Richard Holahan, is said to have been born in Manchester. My research of US Census records show his year of birth between 1858 and 1862. His parents came from Ireland and Lancashire was probably a stopover before coming to the US. I have searched Freebmd.uk, Lancashirebmd.org.uk, and Lan-ops.org.uk to no avail. There have been several records I have ordered that looked promising only to find the parents were not my George's parents. Any help in this regard would be much appreciated!

Just out of interest, did you order marriage record for James Horan and Ellen Howard and the birth record for George Horne, with mother Howard in Ancoats?
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=867381.
There is this marriage in Manchester - register office or registrar attended
June quarter 1857 Manchester vol 8d pg 656
James Horan and Ellen Howard
There is then a birth in Manchester
George Horne with mother Howard
September quarter 1858 Manchester 8d pg 92
I can’t link any of these to 1861 censuses and there are several similar names.
There is also a George Horahan b 1859 with mother Howe.
Also this George at 1861 2964 /131/55
George Horan 2 yrs with parents Thomas and Mary.
I can’t see a marriage in Manchester to check Mary’s surname.

The search continues :). I have made some headway on Ellen Howard, my 2 grandmother, via some help from someone on RootsChat. I'm actually going to Dublin in two weeks and will spend some research time while there. Thank you again for your help with George Richard!
