OOH, thank you sue, it does help, a "step" family how interesting. have to do some more sleuthing now..
thank you very much

Hi Newbie
Here they are in 1841 -
Ref HO107/1172/12 Folio 4 Page 3 (second page I looked at - how lucky is that!)
Address Slaughterford, Wiltshire
Richard Baker - 40 - Ag Lab
Susannah Baker - 40 - -
Eliza Baker - 10 - -
Caroline Baker - 4 - -
George Baker - 2- -
Then comes the even more interesting bit !!!
Same house, separate household,
Ann Holder - 15 - -
Jasper Holder - 10 - -
Just as Sue found in the 1851 !
Actually, just for completeness and there may be no connection at all, there is another household in the same property -
Lydia Beazer - 45 - -
Elizabeth Beazer - 20- -
Rachel Beazer - 15 - -
Joseph Beazer - 10 - -
Eliza Beazer - 7 - -
I wonder what 'step' meant in those days. If Ann and Jasper had been Susannah's children by a previous marriage, I've usually only seen that relationship described as son/daughter, son-in-law/daughter-in-law or even niece/nephew (in the case of my own great grandparents!)
Anyway, it all adds to the fun ;D

hello Angela,
just came back from holiday in Cyprus so sorry for delay in replying, thank you very much for the information now I've just got to sort out who's who!
I wonder too about the step arrangement, it may mean just what it says of course!
thanks again,
Newbie
ps hope you had a good time in Venice. ;D

Me again,
had a quick look on Family search and found a Richard Baker and Susannah Kemmery marriage 7 Mar 1832 North Wraxall Wiltshire. might be mine?
then I found the birth of the children
George Baker, birth 1839, parents Richard Baker and Susannah Kemmery,
Caroline Baker, birth 1837 Wiltshire, Richard Baker, Susannah Kemmery
Elizabeth Baker or Holder, christening, 20 May 1832 North Wraxall Wiltshire, parents Richard Baker and Susannah Kemmery
so in the 1841 there is an Eliza is that the one above do you think, why the two surnames, even more confused now! ;D

Hi Newbie
I had a look at your find on Family Search - looks very promising ;D It's a submitted record so may or may not be accurate BUT it just so happens that I'm going to the Record Office on Tuesday so can double check these entries for you if you like...
Second thoughts - I've just checked the marriage entry on the BVRI and it has Richard BAHAR (!) and Susannah Holder married on the 7th March 1832. It's looking more and more like she was a widow with children when she married. Looking at the North Wraxall parish records should confirm this and also find if there's a suitable death, if you can wait until Tuesday!!!!
Very exciting !!!
Angela

AHA!!!!!
In BVRI, we also have the marriage of Susannah Kemery to Peter Holder in North Wraxall on 6th Feb 1821.
Angela
-
and we have baptisms in North Wraxall of -
Sarah Kimery Holder daughter of Peter Holder and Susanna Kimery 10 dec 1820
George Holder son of Peter & Susanna Holder 20 Oct 1822
Job Holder son of Peter and Susan Holder 1 Feb 1824
Ann Holder daughter of Peter and Susanna Holder 12 Feb 1826
Jasper Holder son of Peter and Susanna Holder 2 Feb 1828
Eliza Holder daughter of Susanna Holder 20 May 1832
Puzzling that - if Susanna had married Richard in the March, why was the baptism of Eliza down to just her in the May? Perhaps the original record will have some notes against it.
Fingers crossed

Yippee, how lucky am I ;D
so that really confirms a lot of informationwe had from the census 1851 and 1841, jasper and ann holder, as you say a puzzle with Eliza, but if you have time at the R.O. the look up would be great...many thanks, I wonder what Susannahs correct year of birth is? it varies thru the census' she must have been a child bride I think?

just found the death of Peter Holder, 22 Mar 1829 on familysearch, it also gives an approximate age for susannah of c1800.
thanks for your help Angela,

Hi Newbie
Just an additional thought on Susannah's age - I zoomed right in on the image for the 1861 sensus and it's definitely 60-something not 50-something, so perhaps the ages fit better than we thought!
Angela
-
you definitely deserve another crown, I'm going to ask Trystan ... ;D at least the picture is a bit clearer...
I've been out all day doing look ups at the Berks Record Office....
many thanks,
Newbie

Hi guys,
I am a descendant of Eliza Baker, daughter of Richard and Susannah that has been mentioned in these posts. I have info on her but not her family. Its interesting that her step brother came to Australia as i have found that Eliza and hubby James Bull came here as did James brother George and his wife Naomi Brown (also from Biddestone / Yatton Keynell) they all lived in Melbourne (after going to Sydney for a short time) and worked in quarries at one time or another. One of Eliza and James daughters went on to marry a wealthy quarry owner James Reid.
Im actually writing a book on the Bull family which Eliza married into and am finding the names of Holder, Beazer, Hand and Beard keep popping up I think they are all related somewhere..Connections with North Wraxall also go back in the Bull family as they brought land from Mr Parker. Do any of these names come up for anyone else researching the family? Would love to share with others connected to this family or any of these families who are connected.
Regards,
Kim
