Dear All
I am looking for the death of Janet Bell Retson who was born on the 30 april 1886 in Falkirk, Scotland, she left Glasgow on the 18 May 1907 and arrived in the port of New York on the 27 May 1907 and then headed for North Bay. Canada. Janet was only 21 years of age and single and her occupation was as domestic servant when she left Scotland. Her parents were Miles Brown Retson and Janet Bell Baird. She married Robert Nisbet Glover on the 22 April 1908 in Cobalt, Ontario. Robert died on the 21 April 1958 in North Bay, Ontario. And Robert twice, he married Ellen K McNaughton on the 2 April 1930 in Toronto, Canada.
But I would like to find out when Janet Bell Glover nee Retson died?? And where is she buried??
Regards
Oletta

Did she & Robert divorce? If so - she may have remarried?
If they didn't divorce - she must have died between 1908 - 1930.
Did they have any children? What year was their last child born?

1921 census date was 1 June 1921, youngest child 5 months old. (belongs to Adam and Ellen)
Could Janet have died in child birth.
Probably to early for death to be released online.
Can't see any newspaper report as yet :-\

1921 census for Robert Glover (40) and daughter Margaret (10) shows Adam (32) and wife Ellen (21) Glover directly below Robert. 5 month old Robert belongs to the children of Adam and Ellen. Hard to read what Robert's marital status is.
The birth registration of Janet Margaret Retson Glover in 1909 shows her mother as Janet Baird Retson.

His service record seems to indicate that she was still alive in 1919 when his pay was still being sent to her c/o Mr. A. Breer, General Delivery, Saskatoon. When he was demobbed in February 1919, he was bound for Biggar, Saskatchewan due to his very poor vision (and end of war of course).

Dear All
Thank you so much for all the information you have sent me, but I have also found a little more information. Robert Nisbet Glover is buried with his second wife, Ellen Kinneburgh McNaughton Glover and they are buried in Union Cemetery, North Bay, Ontario.
As far as I can see Janet and Robert had one Daughter Janet Margaret Retson Glover born 12 February 1909 in Ontario, Canada, she married Salvatore Poletta.
And from Robert's second marriage with Ellen, they had a son Edward McNaughton Glover born 1928

The Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid lists a Jane Glover, wife of Robert N. Glover, buried in North Bay Union Cemetery. It also lists Ellen K. Glover, wife of Robert. All three have the same reference number, this likely refers to the cemetery. Unfortunately no dates are included.

Great discovery. Perhaps the cemetery can help with further information on Jane/Janet.

Re the second marriage for Robert, to Ellen K. McNaughton, in 1930 in Toronto, he states he is a bachelor, a pipe fitter, and a resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario. His parents are given as George Glover and Margaret Nisbet. She is a spinster, resident of North Bay.
-
Well, thus complicates things! In 1907, in North Bay, Adam Murray Glover married Ellen Kinnesburgh McNaughton, daughter of Duncan McNaughton and Ellen Abraham. Adam is the son of George Glover and Margaret Nisbet.
It looks like Robert married his brother’s wife (widow?) in 1930 but why did they declare themselves as bachelor and spinster? Ellen is recorded as Ellen Kinnesburgh McNaughton rather than Nisbet.

You might be able to contact the North Bay Union Cemetery (by the name of it sounds like it may be a municipal cemetery rather than affiliated with a church) and get the information about Janet from them re her burial.

Saskatoon divorce records are on FS
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9T7T-SCBP?i=12&cat=1469036 (docket index)
File starts page 568, runs to 664
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GT7Y-SPK?i=567&cat=1469036
Mostly legalese but here are some useful bits:
580: a history of where the Glovers had lived + list of their children
581: a date of April 1920 for the beginnings of the relationship between Robert and Ellen (this places Robert in Foleyet, Ontario, at this time)
596: a private letter from Ellen to Robert (Bob), summitted as evidence
629: another private letter, this from Ellen to her mother? mother in law? Calls Adam "Murray" and talks about changes in law that will allow her to marry Bob. A second hand (probably the mother) has written something uncomplimentary at the end.
631: original marriage certificate Adam and Ellen
636: another private letter, Ellen to Bob (followed by a typewritten transcript).
643: a letter from Robert to Ellen ("EK")
I didn't see any reference to Janet, but perhaps she was deceased by April 1920 when the affair started.

This looks like a very interesting resource, never come across it before, so will be a good read.
