Title: France - Judeth Franks 1685 -1732
Post by: sunnyg1rl05 on Thursday 05 January 23 14:42 GMT (UK)
I've recently found out my 7 x grt  grandmother  was French, I have no idea how to follow or find information  on French family history, I have tried googling her name and parents names and it brings up French royalty which I don't think is correct.
Her parents were Charles Franks and Ermentrude DeOrleans I don't have any dates for them at the moment .
I just need pointing in the right direction  if anyone can help.
Thank you in advance.
Kaz.

Could you tell us where you found this information, please, and the link to the UK or wherever ?

Hi Judith,
I was on Ancestry and tracing my grandads maternal side which led to Judeth Franks.. she married a Luke (K)nock from Shropshire but I don't have world wide on there so couldn't go any further .

Hi Kaz

I can see plenty of online trees that show Judeth Franks as born in France, but unfortunately there don't seem to be sources for the info.  Have you seen a document that substantiates it?

Some trees say she was born in Paris.  If this is the case, you are unlikely to find a parish register entry as nearly all the registers were destroyed by fire in 1871.  Does the evidence for her death in Belgium which again appears on online trees give any further information do you know?

Some of the trees I've seen are on free sites - Family Search or Généanet (an English version of this exists) - so it might be worth contacting the owners to see if they can help you.

Regards
Judith

Don't know if you can see this on Geneanet.org ?

https://gw.geneanet.org/micamills12?n=franks&oc=&p=judeth (https://gw.geneanet.org/micamills12?n=franks&oc=&p=judeth)

or if that is what you were referring to ? Has Judeth as born in Paris and dying in Flanders. Married to Luke Knock (child: James Nock)

Has Father as:
Charles Joseph Franck
Born 13 Jun ? - Altdorf, Eichstatt, Bayern, Germany
Died 10 January 1725 - Cysoing, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France

married to Ermentrude DeOrleans

Haven't managed to find anything concrete yet.

Thank you both,

She did die at flanders I have been trying to verify that but again wasn't sure how lol.

Luke and Judeth had a son James who married a Dorothy Humphries, they had a son Thomas he married Mary Trowman, they had a daughter Sarah Nock, Sarah married  an isaac Westwood  and so on ending with my grt grandmother  Mercy Ann Pearson ..

I've searched the Cysoing register for the period 1715-1735. I didn't find the death of C.J. Franck. I wonder how they found out he died at the specified date in the specified place. And what about his DOB? It seems they found the exact date, but not the year.
Very intriguing!
@sunnyg1rl05: Do you have proof yourself of any of the information that's been used in the online trees?
In other words, can you give us a starting point with information that is rock solid?

I usually cross reference things from ancestry with family search formally  the latter day saints website..
I found  a marriage for Judeth Franks and Luke( K)nock  1st March 1711 wombourne Staffordshire..
Ancestry usually then give you hints of people with the same names etc and their trees.. unless I can verify information  myself I never add other people's info onto my tree, but it intrigued me as I wondered where they got their info from .. I didn't like to ask either as some don't reply anyway and my membership has run out now so can't access anything on there at the moment until I reactivate it.

It's a good thing to verify before adding to your own tree. So your starting point is the marriage for Judeth & Luke.
I guess you've got the names of her parents from there, right?
Does it contain the information that they came from France, or did this only pop up in the trees Ancestry showed?
