I have a relative William George Mills who died in Brighton on April 26th 1956. Probate names Alberta Louisa Duly. When researching her I found that she had a husband Ralph Duly who died at the same address on 20th April 1956. Alberta inherited a very similar amount from both men. It all looks rather odd. A relative has sent for William’s will. Is anyone able to see any newspaper articles on these men? Were there any particular illnesses rife in Brighton at that time?
Many thanks for any ideas that might help me with this mystery.

You could buy copies of both death certs. You can buy pdf copies for that year which are only £7 instead of £11
William was 73 & Ralph was 64

Thanks Carole. I will get at least the certificate for my direct relative. I am assuming there was nothing suspicious about their deaths as I can’t find any newspaper articles.
Happy New Year and Best wishes

I assume you only have the information about Alberta from the probate index, it is possible that she was just the executor and not a beneficiary

Thanks Rosie. William’s will arrived very quickly and names Alberta as a beneficiary and also a member of his family which confirmed his link to me. I posted on a Brighton Facebook page and found out there were lots of nasty illnesses around in the 50s.

William was living with the Dulys for a while. They're together on the electoral register from 1950

Thank you for your replies. I did wonder if Alberta Julie Duly was the same person was Alberta Louisa. I have ordered William’s death certificate.

Is Julie not an alternative spelling for Duly maybe and not intended to be a middle name?
